CBS interviewed a soccer mom from ALLENTOWN, PA (huge terrorist target, NOT!).
She said that (paraphrasing here) "I know the economy is in poor shape, and there's a big budget deficit. But, I'm voting for Bush--no doubt about it. Because he's better on the military and defense and things like that."
Arrgghhhh! Stupid goddamn sheeple! These fucking morons deserve Bush as their president. Too bad they have to drag us down with them.

or at least the political equivalents of men in Santa suits. Fakes, I tell you, FAKES! No, seriously ... If you haven't made up your mind at this point, crawl back under your rock. It's not like this election is based on nuance.

That's why I considered her a swing voter. She's the exact demographic--stupid, uninformed, and suburban, that is threatening to give this election to aWol.

What party are these people usually affiliated with? It's MADNESS.
It's driving me insane too. :grr:

If any are close to draft age I would ask her if she is prepared for her son or daughter to go to Iraq? and if not, how can she support a war and a president who sends other peoples children to Iraq but wouldn't want her own to go?

her babe was still in swaddling clothes.
That said, anyone who remained "undecided" in the US Presidential race to this point, then made their decision based on events in Russia, obviously has no established beliefs of their own and may yet change her opinion again before November 2. We just have to keep our wits, try to influence when we can.

I just spoke to someone today, a youg girl, about 20. Very nice girl, but when she saw that I was supporting Kerry, she half-jokingly gave me the thumbs-down along with a raspberry. Everyone in the room asked, "You're not voting for Bush are you?" And she said that she was and when asked why, she replied, "I just like him better". I tried to ask her why she thought he ws better, but she couldn't give me any reason, other than that she thought he seemed nicer. She then proceeded to say "I hate politics". Okay, well it's a good thing you're voting then, since you have absolutely no idea what's going on, and you think this is some high school popularity contest. I have a month and a half to help her see the light.

| 12. Actually, there are swing voters who are very well informed.. |
|
they vote for the person & not the party.
And let us hope there are moderate voters who sometimes vote Repub, who will swing Dem this time, because they realize Bush is dangerous.
Undecideds are something else...especially in this election.

|
And their motto is "Country before Party."
Take heart, there are informed folk out there. And those Republicans realize that Bush doesn't represent their moderate, or even true conservative, interests.

Barry Goldwater is spinning in his grave...smaller govt, fiscal discipline, freedom in our personal lives, never tie up our military in a quagmire, allow gays to serve, pro-choice, pro envirnonment, keep religion out of politics, etc.
Just the Patriot Act alone, could cause Barry to come back & haunt us all.
Are you a Wes Clark fan, LittleClarkie?
I supported Wes, & still miss him.

Wes was my "starter" candidate. It took me an ungodly amount of time to wander into the Kerry camp. But seeing as that was what Clark was advocating, I dully put up a sign in the window and slowly started finding out about the guy I'd been told had "the personality of styrofoam."
Now I'm a full-fledged Kerryite. I honestly think with his varied background he's gonna be a great president, or at least as great as anyone can be when they have to clean up the mess of the current administration.
Not to fear for old Wes. He's a Kerry adviser now, and I do think he'll end up with some post in a Kerry admin. I hope so. I miss him too. Although he was a Johnny One Note, I appreciated that he was the one saying what I was thinking about the Iraq war (no blank check, Mr. President).

| 16. Swing Voters Are the Ones Who Believe Everything They Are Told |
|
They will swing to Kerry for a few minutes after they see one of his ads, and some did after seeing him at the convention, and most have swung back by now with all the pro-Boosh coverage on most of the TV networks. We cannot reach most of these voters.
Forget the historical figures that show swing voters breaking for the challenger. It isn't happening, and it isn't going to happen. No challenger in over 200 years of US history has ever had to deal with such a hostile media.
I once thought we might be able to get as many as half of them, this no longer seems likely, given the Repub control of the media.
Most swing voters are just looking for an excuse to vote for Boosh and they are sure to find one.
We need more "unlikely" voters.

Given the results of the Rethug convention, I can't say it's an ineffective strategy.

most people around here are not interested in trying to appear unbias... They incorrectly think that by appearing to be raving frothing partisians, that this will encourage people to vote their way.
To those outside their hermetically sealed world, they appear quite crazy. It goes just as well for the right. These swing voters can get turned off quick with partisian antics.

even though we might be astonished that a swing voter could still be undecided... an undecided voter is an opportunity. at least an undecided voter is (theoretically) willing to listen to pro-kerry arguements.
cheers :)
