How I think Max Cleland can turn it around for Kerry

This election isn't over by a long shot, not with the debates to look forward to, but I honestly feel John Kerry has to start some movement before those debates begin in late September. In my opinion, his problem is that he hasn't truly attacked Bush on what Bush is really most vulnerable on--the war in Iraq. I like some of Kerry's ads which take Bush to task on the economy--using his own words against him. If this election were only about domestic issues, Kerry would be well ahead. But, once again Rove has manipulated things, just like in 2002 where national security/terrorism is the overriding issue. This is why Bush has moved ahead because Kerry, again in my opinion hasn't sufficiently attacked Bush on his own record.

I think the best surrogate Kerry has is Max Cleland. A true man of honor and integrity who has given much to his country. I think, he should be the one we use in an ad to begin the counter-attack on Bush.
This is what I would envision.

"I'm sick and tired of a man who served two tours of duty in Vietnam and has the scars to prove his dedication to his country being attacked as being weak on national security by a president who has yet to fully explain questions about his own service in the National Guard, and a vice president who sought five deferments to avoid the draft during the Vietnam war.

My blood began to boil when this same Vice President in a campaign appearance said that if John Kerry is elected we can expect another terrorist attack. That statement is beyond comtempt and goes far and away beyond the usual political rhetoric. But it is the only way they know how to campaign--by tearing down their opponents. Why? because they don't have a positive record to run on.

The fact of the matter is after 9/11 our country was unified as never before and the world was behind us in an effort to bring Bin Laden to justice for the murders of 3000 innocent people. We had him and his network on the run when the president decided to divert attention away from this noble cause and rush to war in Iraq. This mistake was costly in terms of world wide good will, valuable resources and yes, human life.

This same president later said that finding Bin Laden isn't a "top priority". Well, Mr. President perhaps you should explain to the American people why. This same president just a few weeks ago said that we can't win the war on terrorism. Perhaps he should try to explain this statement to the young men and women who are courageously fighting the war on terrorism.

Mr. President, you have a lot of explaining to do."

I'm going to. I really think he needs to come out, not only on the stump but in his advertising tearing Bush apart on his own record on terrorism and Iraq. As I say, in 2002 Rove did the same thing got the country alarmed about terrorism while the dems spoke about the economy. We know what happened then, and unfortunately, it seems history is repeating itself unless we act NOW.
