Meeting with troops at Camp Victory near Baghdad's main airport, Obama said "I want to shake as many hands as I can" and thanked the soldiers for their service.

"Thanks to all of you. I am so honored," the president said to a shout-out of "love you," to which he answered "I love you back."

Troops held digital cameras over their heads taking pictures of Obama with an American flag behind him.

"You face strain, sacrifice, controversy, difficulty, politics," the president said. Turning Iraq into a fledgling democracy is an "extraordinary achievement."

5. Before the election, I asked a carpenter doing some work for me who he favored in the election.

We're both from rural Tennessee, he knew I was an Obama supporter, and I was interested in his answer.

" I was undecided, until yesterday", he replied. " I asked my son who he was for, and he answered Obama. So I decided that's who I'm voting for now."

"You see, my son's generation is going to have to climb out of the hole my and your generation has left them in, and if Obama can inspire them to do it, then he's my candidate."
