| Durbin caving-in on public option demonstrates that Obama has blown it |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 01:38 AM by brentspeak
Obama's entire political strategy on the health-care reform issue (if it can truly be called a "strategy") was to let Congress -- along with the freaking health-care industry -- by themselves come up with the plans and fight over the details, with the White House simply standing off to the side and chipping in with occasional vague pronouncements.
Well, as any child could have predicted, it didn't work. The true-blue congressional Democrats who actually do give a damn, like Durbin, have been given little significant support from Obama. They're like the doomed WWI soldiers who were ordered by the far-away generals to charge over the trenches; anyone who managed to get to the other side have found themselves alone, separated from any help, in hostile territory, and quickly cut-down.
Where was the leadership? Where was the support?

That is about Obama. Don't come at me with cheap psychology. There are bills, a debate is raging, nothing is final. The friggin end isn't here, and anyone predicting failure or declaring failure is useless at the very least.

:spray:  :wow: :wow: :wow:
Since all but a minority of professional economists failed to see the housing bubble coming, anyone at this stage in American history who still takes "the economists'" word for it is in need of some real help. There's only a few intelligent economists out there -- the same ones who warned about the housing bubble and escalating consumer debt due to lost jobs and easy credit -- and they're not among those stupidly heralding "stabilization".

If there's such thing as a "pointless red herring question designed to shift the issue", then yours' is the perfect example.
In answer to your pointless question (and I'm answering it mostly for the benefit of other readers here), a few economists who knew what the hell they were talking about concerning the housing bubble: Dean Baker, Peter Morici, Robert Kuttner, Michael Hudson, Nouriel Roubini. There were others, too, who understood what was happening, like Peter Schiff, who aren't professional economists and aren't necessarily "liberal", but who also got it right.
There's an answer for your question. Now you answer mine:
A) Who are the economists who say the economy is stabilizing; and B) did any of them warn about the housing bubble ahead of time?

|
Are you not seeing what the Dems are dealing with and your talking about the shit that has no sources but your own rather negative views.
People are harassing others and our own Dems who are active supporters at Town Hall meetings. Obama has sent out his Senators and Congressmen to talk to the people and they are being high-jacked and people are being assaulted and/or threatened with violence to the point of being mortally wounded and your talking about Obama not supporting his people.
What the fuckin' hell is going on here?! I'm downright pissed now. This is the kind of post you put up and think it will do what exactly?! You're talking nonsense when health care is being undermined by Republicans and basically everything we're seeing is caused by them and you're saying Obama is not supportive?! He's out there as well, and he's having his own Town Hall meeting and being a foot soldier.
Shit I'm tired of this crap on this board. Ugh, disgusting. You'd think you'd really be focused on rallies and getting our side more organized to get things done...no, you whine without proofs. Ugh.

You think what I'm saying is "negative"? Then you have no idea what's actually being said about Obama beyond microphone range by the Democratic members of Congress themselves. I have friends who are Democratic staffers, and the things they are reporting concerning what their bosses say about Obama's lack of leadership and support would make you quit blithering about my posts in record time.

that you would quote unnamed Congressional staffers about Obama's lack of leadership and support.
It is Congress that has cowered and made the President's job much much worse.
There are dozens of examples but the most glaring is that of closing down Gitmo. The President has done all of the heavy lifting only to find even congressional Democrats begging "don't send them to the maximum security prison in my home state".
With Teddy out of the lineup the Democrats in Congress have shown a sustained and aggressive cowardice waiting for the President to take on every hard issue and run their own re election campaign too, all the time that President has to keep an economy on the edge of implosion from collapsing.
Congress unable to take action because of not enough Presidential Leadership - this is the stupidest comment you have ever made and that is rising to herculean levels of achievement.

Damn...that sucks. Now what?
Should Congress members cancel the rest of the town halls stop talking about the issue altogether? Apparently it's over and Obama has already blown it so I guess it's time to move on to another issue.
By the way, do you have a link to the final health care bill proposed? It would be really nice if you to provided me with that link because I don't have one.
Thanks!! :hi:

| 37. Oh so it's Congress and Obama's fault when there are fools ruining Townhalls?! |
|
It's their fault that is going on and hence the reason viable health care is on the fence. The media's legitimization of the actions of these people doesn't have a single effect. Congress to me has failed a million times over---however the Repubs do have some serious power in able to flood the Town halls with these loud minorities who are throwing out death threats and have submitted to violent tactics at the Town halls. The media is always to blame because their owned by repugs as well. But I've seen Obama seriously pushing this and focusing a lot of his energy on getting the word out and this is what happens----where people are again spewing death threats to him because they believe he's trying to kill them.
Our duties didn't end with President Obama's election, we should be going out there and struggle for health care at the Town Halls, but there's no talk of that really. These people are running amok and threatening people and the blame is entirely on Obama and/or Congress...man. This is why we fail a lot of the time.
