New organization pokes fun at Kerry’s football fumbles

Two Washington-based lawyers supporting President Bush’s re-election have registered an advocacy group, Football Fans for Truth, as a Section 527 organization allowed to accept unlimited political donations. They plan to publicize Kerry’s recent sports misstatements such as his reference to the home of the Green Bay Packers as “Lambert Field” instead of Lambeau Field.

Lawyers Jeff Larroca and Dino Panagopoulos, both members of the law firm Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, said in a conference call Wednesday they have no plans to raise large amounts of cash. Instead, they hope to get free publicity from sports talk radio and other media. “Our goal is to basically find ways to get out the political humor about John Kerry’s unsuitability to be sportsman-in-chief,” Larroca said.

Larroca and Panagopoulos characterized Kerry as a “sports poser” who said his favorite Boston Red Sox player was someone never on the team.
“Some people like the fact that he is an avid dove hunter,” Larroca said.

Asked about their involvement in the Bush campaign, they would only say, “We both have yard signs.”

Meanwhile, the Bush campaign has played up its tenuous affinity to the Packers with Wisconsin voters.

Last week Vice President Dick Cheney visited Green Bay, Sheboygan and Milwaukee with former Packers quarterback Bart Starr. In Green Bay, Cheney pointed out he worked 38 years ago for then-Wisconsin Gov. Warren Knowles. “And one of the privileges of working for the governor was he was a great Packer fan,” Cheney said. “And we used to catch football games.”

18. The timing of the article is suspicious

This item appeared in the Green Bay Press-Gazette today, the day after Kerry's HUGE turnout in Madison.

I don't necessarily see it as a big deal, since it got VERY LITTLE COVERAGE when he said it in August. It's just interesting how these little groups keep popping up at "convenient" times.

We will publicize Bush's misstatements about everything.

I am also thinking of forming Connecticut Yankees for Truth.

We will publicize Bush's Yankee roots, along with the fact that he is the only member of his family to put on a Texas drawl.

Perhaps Drivers for Truth would be a good idea. We can discuss reasons no one should get in a car with George or Laura.

Finally, I do believe there is a need for Healthy Inner Ears for Truth. We will discuss George Bush's difficulties in maintaining his balance and keeping himself upright, as evidenced by his falling off of bicycles, helicopter stairs, Segways, and pretzels.

It is extremely important to cover these issues and stop focusing on trivia such as the economy or Iraqnam.

the local media gave it a pass - a simple mis-statement. But thanks to Cheney and slime-ball tactics, it's now an "issue." Cheney made the snide comment at a recent stop in GB last week, gratuitously flaunting Bart Starr (I'm so disappointed).

The mayor of Madison jibed back at Kerry's rally yesterday saying "Dick Cheney has re-visited the sight of his last deferment."
