| i *hate* phone banking, but... |
|
you do what ya gotta do, right? especially, this cycle. so i'm calling tonight for a local race, county commissioner, and i've got a neighborhood just down the road from where i live. which is pretty cool, i'm getting into it, the list is dems and independents/non-affilliated. manage to sway a couple of libertarian/right leaning guys and one woman our way on both the local guy and kerry. got open minds on a couple of others, i think, all in all a good night.
but the best was 3 different ladies, all over the age of 90, all sharp as a tack, one of which is getting a kerry/edwards yard sign put up by yours truly tomorrow. she's 94, and she's 'been voting democrat for an awful long time. but she was born into a republican family. she married a democrat. now that was a problem. yes, sir, that was a problem.' hah! i love her!
anyhow, i still *hate* phone banking, but there are little gifts given to you for doing the right thing.

It's a struggle the first few times you do it, but the more you do it, the better you get with talking over the phone and the better you can convince people to vote for Kerry. Don't give up!

--think of how you would react to your own call. Be very aware of when people are preoccupied or in a hurry, and get out of their faces, fast. Don't take bitchiness you might run into personally.

| 6. yeah, i've been doing it 2 or 3 x a week for about 3 weeks |
|
now for kerry. it was actually a lot more fun for the local guy, not nearly as rigid in sticking to the script, and even though i *hate* doing it, i give pretty good phone.
i'd prefer to be out canvassing but i have a disability that limits my mobility these days so my time is better spent in one place, i think. so i try and hit the post office (i'm out in a semi-rural area) to register voters and do the phoning.
this year, this election, it's just too important to sit on your ass.
