The Republican Party acknowledged yesterday sending mass mailings to
residents of two states warning that "liberals" seek to ban the Bible. It
said the mailings were part of its effort to mobilize religious voters for
President Bush.

The mailings include images of the Bible labeled "banned" and of a gay
marriage proposal labeled "allowed." A mailing to Arkansas residents warns:
"This will be Arkansas if you don't vote." A similar mailing was sent to
West Virginians.

A liberal religious group, the Interfaith Alliance, circulated a copy of the
Arkansas mailing to reporters yesterday to publicize it. "What they are
doing is despicable,'' said Don Parker, a spokesman for the alliance. "They
are playing on people's fears and emotions."

In an e-mail message, Christine Iverson, a spokeswoman for the Republican
National Committee, confirmed that the party had sent the mailings.

4. Absurd

Liberals are for free speech. Good gosh...Liberals have no problem with the Bible, but rather having it become part of the government.

As a Christian, my problem with the Bible is the incredible mis-interpretation by so-called Christians (The 700 Club Types) that make Christians look like a bunch of thuggish zealots who lust for revenge, murder, war, greed, death and destruction.

There is now a movement on the right trying to pry new meaning out of the bible stating selfishness and greed is actually the command of God. I can't wait till we get that debate going.

Now the Republicans are twisting the Word of God to suit their agenda? These people are despicable. Next thing you know, they'll be falling back on that old line that the Bible justifies slavery. Give Bush 4 more years, and we'll be back in the Middle Ages.

A white, working class male, dressed casually, perhaps for work, approximate age 40, is standing in the empty parking lot of a closed factory.

The DNC must find an actual closed factory and an actual unemployed worker. Suggestion: Canton, Ohio.

The man speaks directly to the camera.

"My name is <--------> and this is where I worked for <--> years before it was closed. The jobs were shipped overseas. The company is still doing fine, but <-------> people lost their jobs.

"For years now, I've voted for the Republicans. They told me I had to, that if I didn't, the Democrats would take away my guns, take away my Bible and take away my cultural heritage. The truth is, nobody ever even tried to take those things from me. The truth is that what got taken away was my job, my health insurance and on some days my hope in future for my family and my town.

The Republicans are really good at getting people whipped up and angry over things like guns and religion, but they are clearly no good at taking care of what matters most to me and my family.

We've supported the Republicans long enough. This time my family and I are voting Democrat. It's time we support the people who support us."

It would work in Ohio. It would work in Pennsylvania. It would work all over the country.
