Dear fellow Democrats,

The response from Don Beyer’s email last week has been overwhelming- we raised over four thousand dollars in 48 hours. Dean supporters are coming through for Virginia Democrats, and together we will take back the House.

Increased local support and rising enthusiasm have marked our recent campaigning throughout the Fifth district. With your contributions we will support a Danville campaign office, vastly increasing our presence in Southside Virginia. We are at a crucial stage in our fight to unseat Virgil Goode, who has been disenfranchising Virginia Democrats for eight years in Congress. Your support will make this a race that can and will be won by the Democrats.

Thirty-seven days remain before the election. Our last great challenge and the project that, if we succeed, will put a Democratic Virginian in Congress is television. To win, we must run television ads. Television ads cost money. Our TV budget is $300,000 dollars- enough to reach the most voters with the best ads. We need to raise one hundred and fifty $2,000 dollar blocks to purchase airtime. Twenty blocks have already been reserved by Democratic donors- that’s 40,000! Please help us raise the last 130 blocks; give us the push necessary to win this election. There are 5 days until September 30th, when the Democratic National Committee will judge our progress. If we succeed in raising most of this money, the DNC and other like-minded organizations may kick in the rest.

I am not a wealthy man and this campaign, besides showing that people do care about an honest message and frank talk, is one that demonstrates that hard work and good support can trump personal and corporate donations. When we win it will not only send a message to America that people care about Democratic values, but that we also will support people of average means, but good ideas, when given a choice.
