What do today's Republicans believe in as a Party...

We know they are for lower taxes, even if they have to borrow from the future to get them. Most say they are for smaller government, but they always seem to have the biggest budgets ever proposed? They say they are for a strong military but they do nothing to make our military stronger. They usually use the military and the weapons that the Democrats put in place during their tenure.

They say they are for Jesus in the schools and want a more Christian nation but when they have the opportunity, they act more like Judas Iscariot than Jesus Christ. They sell their souls for thiry pieces of silver. They say they are for helping business create jobs but over the last 50 years, they have created far less jobs than the Democrats over the same time period.


So, what do Republicans really believe? To me, they seem to be a Party that pretends to believe in some ideas but they are mostly out of touch with the majority of America. Few of their ideas are ever acted upon, except taxcuts. Whenever they are successful in getting their ideas put into policy form, they are usually disasters. They are not very good at governing. They are much better and more comfortable at opposing governing or government. But,ask them what they believe and they will give a litany of illusions.

1. Todays Republicans believe in God, Guns, & Tax Cuts....

And the supremacy of the corporation.

Old Republicans are rolling over in their graves.

They used to be for smaller gov, with balanced budgets.

A strong defense, & no foreign wars unless U.S. was threatened.

They believed in a clean & good environment; Teddy Roosevelt was our 1st environmentalist, & Nixon passed 1st serious enviro legislation.

They used to believe the govt should stay out of our private lives.

I think that's just a myth. Seriously, it seems like the repugs have been making a mess of things for just about forever, and each time the grownups have to come in and clean up the mess.

7. I agree. Remember Hoover had the same exact policies that Bush and

today's Repugs do on economics. Remember that President Hoover's policies started the 1st Great Depression.

8. Not fair to Hoover

If you want to blame a president for the Depression, blame Coolidge. He knew the stock market was overinflated and didn't do anything about it.

Hoover was in office seven months when the market crashed and he expanded government programs far more than any president before him.

Blame Hoover if you want for not fighting the depression effectively, but blaming him for the depression is not fair in my opinion.

2. FEAR

That is what they worship now. Fear of others' existence. Fear of other beliefs. Fear of losing what little they have clawed out. Fear of fear itself.

Nothin' else.

Try it when canvassing and talking to one of 'em. It all comes back to it. Kerry and any other thoughtful, questioning person represents questioning that fear. They fear that. Fear of fear itself.

Why are you a Republican. They never did give a response to that question and just repeated the same tripe about Liberals: welfare cheats, tax and spend, communists, ietc. When I repeated the question and asked for a serious response they could not do it.

Then ask them what a "communist" is. They are like little kids using the four letter word but really don't know what it means.

3. They believe that if they vote Republican,

• that at Jesus' name every knee shall bend, or John Ashcroft will know why not
  
• that taxes will never go up, and services will never go down
  
• that foreigners will tremble when they see our might
  
• that they'll get to 'keep their guns'
  
• that The Other -- women, fags, liberals, coloreds -- won't 'get them'?
  

And finally and most important:

6. Repukes I know fall into three categories

1. Rich white people who don't want to share. Their God is money.

2. Single-issue pro-lifers and born-agains who think the chimp is one of them.

3. Angry white men and women who listen to Rush and blame every problem facing the U.S. on Clinton, minorities, and gays.

There are probably still some misguided moderates floating around, too-- people who aren't paying attention and vote R out of habit.

There is nothing cohesive about the repukes. They are a bunch of special interest groups who come together for the sake of expediency.
