The public picked the right debate winner in the 60, 76, 80, 84, 88, 92, and 96 debates unfortunately the debate winner in the 1984 debates didn't go on to become president...
Hell, most folks thought Gore won the first debate until the press told them what to think...

Carter in 76 and Reagan in 80 pulled it off though with very different styles...
