| Something strange in my neighborhood, Bush signs taken down |
|
I walk every day in my solidly middle-class neighborhood here in the Tampa Bay area. Usually there are a lot of signs before elections but not this year. Until last week there were 4 Bush signs and only my Kerry sign. Then after Hurricane Jeanne one neighbor didn't put her Bush sign back up, and today, there was a new Kerry sign ( different house ) and another real diehard took down her Bush sign but left up her sign for a Republican judge.
I wonder what happpened yesterday that turned her off so badly? So now there area 2 Bush signs here, 2 Kerry, 1 Bush bumper sticker and 5 Kerry. Not scientific, but I'm keeping track anyhow. I wonder if the fact that Kerry and Edwards , during the debates, are passing along information ignored by the press, is helping.

Or is this only like the 38th time a report has been released saying Iraq had no WMDs? I'm not sure why this report is getting so much attention because I thought we had established long ago that there were no WMDs in Iraq...

When I can't sleep and take my dogs for a walk at 4:00 a.m.-ish, my dogs keep snagging their leashes on Bush signs and =WOMP=, the pull the signs over and heave them into the nearby woods.
Damned if I can figure out why they're doing it.. But my pooches are getting REALLY good at it ~ ;)

Maybe dogs should be running the country.
I have a bird and I could train her to repeat the same talking points over and over again (ala Bush). Some birds have an intelligence level of a three or four year old. So, my bird could do the same job that Bush could do AND she wouldn't be trying to start WW3.

Maybe you can teach those dogs to carry voter registration forms or fetch undecided voter phone lists for you instead. I'll bet they'd love riding in the back on election day while you ferry voters to the polls.
Pulling out signs just hardens support for a candidate. How did DUers here respond when their Kerry signs were stolen?

At least the debates are working! I think we're seeing that with the electoral-vote.com site. Because of the war I think more people are watching the debates and then they can also hear the other issues as well. http://www.drphil.com/show/show.jhtml?contentId=3203_kerry.xml

North Jersey is predominantly Republican....and there are not that many car stickers pro Bush and almost as many Kerry/Edwards as far as I can see. But I've noticed 2 places where the Bush sign has come down in front of the houses nearby.
And it wasn't me, although I have to confess....if it's near the road, it's an easy side by stomper....I'll mow it down with my supercoupe.....oops....we have a lot of deer running around up here you know.....

and I was thinking about why I see so many K/E signs/bumper stickers and very from B/C. I think maybe they just dont feel the need. A lot like B/C themselves they can't image anything other than victory.
We on the other hand, put up signs and stickers both to vocalize our position and to a degree antagonize the opposition (well at least that is my reason).
I haven't seen that many signs come down, but then there weren't all that many to start with.

| 14. They have actually co-opted the American Flag and ribbons.... |
|
as signs of their support for the war and so forth....so this has been the overall approach many have taken.
Many of these people do in fact know Bush is a clod...but like the idea of "kicking ass"....you know the mentality....it's better to fight them over there than over here...
Without the war....as ironic and pathetic as it is.....Bush would be run out of office. Problem is...people haven't clued into the fact that this war is a security blanket for Bush, Cheney, and all the rest of these neoconistic Barnett sucking militarists.

It's not impossible but why would someone steal a Bush sign from one yard and leave one standing next door? I think it's better just to leave them alone - stealing someone's sign would just make them more resolute.
Btw, I'm voting for the Republican judge too. His opponent is Bubba the Love Sponge whom I despise.

I haven't got any signs in my neighborhood, actually. All I've noticed is my K/E bumper sticker, but... down the street, right next to my polling place there is a very large, lovely home. They have the biggest K/E sign I've seen! It is on a major road - and they even have red, white & blue lights surrounding it that they turn on at night!!
A few weeks ago while working in my garage, I had a man stop by with clipboard in hand. He began to introduce himself... "I'm so-and-so with the Bush Campaign..." I cut him off & simply said "I'm SO not interested in what you are selling!" Kept an eye out for him - he promptly disappeared - he was not at any of my neighbors houses! I guessed that he must have gotten the same reaction from a few others & decided to hang it up on my neighborhood!

| 18. In my PA neighborhood, a lot of republicans |

have signs in their yard for local and congressional candiates, but without the expected Bush signs. I've been wondering if this means anything. There are SOME Bush signs, but nowhere near as many as for republican candidates for other offices.

It's not just my dogs that are peeing on, and then tearing down Bush signs..
A bumper crop of Bush/Cheney signs went up after the R-Convention. After the first debate, a good amount of those have come down.
I should mention too.. that while there are more R's in Alaska than D's (more Independents though than BOTH parties put together) that there are a **LOT** of Kerry/Edwards signs and bumper stickers.

| 24. Maybe 'What about Poland?!' has hit home. Last week's debate woke up |
|
many thousands of people to the fact an incarnation of Forrest Gump has been occupying the White House and screwing up everything he's touched. Suddenly they realize their hero has given us record high oil prices, the first Presidency since Hoover's to preside over a loss of jobs, rising poverty, record deficits, another recession coming, long-time allies against us, a thousand soldiers dead, draft coming back, America the Great Satan again, and Americans getting their heads cut off on videotape.
These people had been distracted by Karl Rove's color-coded terror alerts and soothed by reassuring noises coming from Fox News. But Kerry's brilliant debate performance reduced Prince Dubya to repeating, "What about Poland?' That was a wake-up call. Even Fox couldn't sell Bush's pitiful performance as a debate "victory"--the man was pathetic.
Even Joe Kiernan of CNBC, whose gung-ho Republicanism has been an on-air joke among his fellow anchors for years, said he turned off the debate and went to bed after hearing Dubya ask, 'What about Poland?"
