Two lines in Gov. Bob Riley's State of the State speech are remarkably similar to lines used by President Clinton in important speeches, but Riley's spokesman said it's purely coincidence.
In Riley's speech to the Legislature Tuesday night, he said, "Tonight we have the most dynamic, the most competitive job-creating economy in the history of this state."
Clinton, in his 1999 State of the Union speech, said, "Today America is the most dynamic, competitive, job-creating economy in history," according to a transcript of the speech.
The State of the State speech by the Republican governor also included the lines: "Alabama's success was not a matter of chance. It was a matter of choice."
A transcript of Clinton's speech to the 2000 Democratic National Convention contains the lines: "America's success was not a matter of chance. It was a matter of choice."
