And to all the other Auburn fans here.
And assuming we don't make a coaching change, congratulations, in advance, for next year as well.
EDIT: I realized that "as well" in two sentences was too much. :)

Alabama needs to hire the best, proven coach they can. Money no object. They just spent, what, $100 million, on facilities? Get the best coach we can buy. You can't buy players, but you can buy coaches. I wonder who is for sale? I hope we can sign Joe Paterno to a 30-year contract.

It's not like it was a blowout, darlin'...
My two pennies - Mike Shula shouldn't be given any more time (though Auburn fans would love it if he stuck around). He just isn't up to the job. He doesn't motivate and he doesn't strategize. He is, I have no doubt, a heck of a nice guy, but being an SEC football head coach just isn't his niche. The powers that be at Alabama have got to put away their houndstooth hats when they go to the drawing board and start discussing his replacement and stop trying to bring in an "in house family member" to lead the Crimson Tide. I hear rumblings about them recruiting Bobby Petrino, but Petrino is sitting pretty at Louisville, I don't know why he'd want to leave. I'm afraid that Steve Spurrier might be recruited - as much as I dislike him, he is a proven entity, and could really help rebuild a broken program there.
One of the things that struck me this season about Alabama is that there doesn't seem to be any discipline or cohesiveness to the football program at all. I don't know what in the hell their sports information staff is up to these days, because it sure isn't riding herd on the players who kept mouthing off to the press, something I think contributed to Bama's loss to Mississippi State (after Jimmy John's ridiculous and childish comments about Croom the week before).
Alabama has got a great quarterback in John Parker Wilson. Get the coaching staff straight, and things will be different between our teams soon enough!

Regarding Jimmy Johns, I thought it was ridiculous that he wasn't suspended after his head-butting incident. (I don't recall which game that was in, but he definitely deserved to be suspended for at least one game.)
Spurrier is very unpopular around these parts, and I doubt that many 'Bama fans would be thrilled if he was hired here. Rich Rodriguez, I think, would be a popular choice, but like Petrino at Louisville, he has built an impressive program at West Virginia, and I'm not sure he would leave for Tuscaloosa. I think we could have gotten Butch Davis, but he just signed on at North Carolina. I've heard rumors that Nick Saban wants to return to college coaching, and that he's interested in the UA job. But if we were to match his NFL salary, he would be by far the highest paid coach in NCAA football. I think he makes about $5 million per year, while Bob Stoops at Oklahoma is currently the highest paid college coach at something like 3.5.
Let me say it's DAMN nice to see you around here. I've missed you, and hope you drop in more often!

I've changed my mind about Spurrier. I've noticed that 'Bama fans don't mind that Spurrier is an asshole, if he becomes our asshole. :)
I don't think it's going to happen though. I hope they have a great coach lined up. If it's Chan Gailey (sp?), I may slit my wrists. (Figuratively speaking.)

I am not a fan of Steve Spurrier but it looks like he is the popular rumor around the tidesports forum. There will be an official statement today at 2. Maybe they will announce the new guy then. I wish Shula would have been given a bit longer but his numbers have not been great. (Not just the Auburn numbers). Oh well, Roll Tide any damn way!

And he didn't say it out loud, but it kind of sounded like he expects (or wishes) to be running Spurrier's 'Bama defense next year. I still don't think it will happen though.
I think Shula is a good guy. What he needed to do was to replace Bob Connelly and Dave Rader, bring a new emphasis to discipline, and learn the differences between coaching professional football and college football. If he had done those things, I think he could have been a very successful CEO-type coach.
I've never met the coach, but I chatted briefly with his wife Shari at a scrimmage last year and she seemed sweet as pie. I wish the Shula family well.

I sure wish it could have been handled a bit better - not sure why Mal Moore waited a week to break the news, unless they thought they had a replacement about to sign a contract. The poor guy met with his team last night, then found out after that.
:(
Good to see you, my dear cyberson. I hope you are keeping the grades up your senior year. Frank T. from your high school had dinner at my house the other night and we talked about you!

But Auburn is home, and I was pulling for the Tigers that day. In the rain. As we lost.
Congrats to the Dawgs on the victory over Georgia Tech - it's been a VERY interesting season this year!

It is nice to have hung around for an extra semester to get the thumb. 5 years I've been in school, 5 Auburn wins. I hope I don't take the streak away with me! BTW, if yall know of anyone looking to hire a good Democrat fresh out of college, drop me a line!

Here I've been telling my dad not to watch the iron bowl 'cause he's a jinx (he was present for the La tech disasters and IB 2000). Good to know we'll start winning 'em next year.
