| Two issues that don't matter in 08: race and gender |
|
Race:
A full .01% of human DNA codes for skin color. Black people evolved in tropical climates, hence the melanin to protect from the sun's UV.
White people evolved in northern climates-less solar UV, therefore less melanin. If there were no pigments in our skin, it'd be a creamy white, whether one's ancestors were from Africa or Norway.
Fortunately, evolution doesn't work that way. Humanity is a mosaic of colors and cultures. We Americans are damn lucky to have that mosaic contributing to this Nation we call home.
If a man with melanin in his skin cells gets the Democratic nomination, he has my unwavering support.
Gender:
Less than 100 years ago, women got the right to vote. Today, a woman has a very real chance of becoming President. As the old commercials said "You've come a long way"(Yeah, it was a cigarette ad-but you get my drift). Throughout history women have proven their ability to lead a nation. Perhaps ours? We'll see. If a woman gets the Democratic nomination, she has my unwavering support.
As Democrats, we can't lose. Either way history will be made. It's a good time to be alive!
As an aside, I posed this question to my VERY redneck brother-in-law. His answer: "I'd vote fer the N 'fore I'd vote fer the B". At least it's a start, I think.

I was hoping Edwards would get the nod, but not because he was white dude.
I'd prefer Obama to Clinton, but could be happy with either one of them.
Hopefully, whoever wins will appoint Edwards Attorney General and unleash the forces of justice on the Bush administration -- though I have little hope that will happen.
