| anyone still using dialup? expericence with HiWaay? |
|
I can only get dialup where I live. I live just a little too far off the main road to get cable, without paying a **huge** fee to get it installed.
I was using DBTech, until they were taken over by HiWaay, so now I'm on HiWaay.
I had fine results with DB (for dialup), but ever since Hiwaay took over, I've had connection issues, and they are only getting worse.
I CANNOT initiate a call at the v.90 protocol, ever. And increasingly, I'm experiencing dropped connections.
They tell me it's a phone company issue, but I can connect with any other isp at v.90. Though I can't judge dropped connections, because I'm not a client of any of those other services.
It's bad enough to only have dialup, when everybody I know has cable or DSL. But this is getting ridiculous.
Anyone have experience with dialup on Hiwaay?
I'm just looking for some advice here. I used to have Simplecom, but dropped them when their once fine performance took a nosedive, and the final straw was when they dropped Usenet.
Just looking for advice. Anyone here still using dialup? Anyone have HiWaay?

| 1. You might try NetZero... |
|
I've been using it now for a couple of months, and it's not too bad. I don't know where you are in the state, but they have a fairly extensive array of numbers.

| 4. I have a friend that used to use NetZero |
|
He had an account on there that was actually free. I guess it was ad supported. He seemed to think it was okay, but he is only a casual internet user.
The funny thing is, he now has Comcast high-speed, and I, an internet data hog is relegated to crappy dial-up. Funny world we live in, huh? :D

| 2. We had Hiwaay when i lived outside of Huntsville. |
|
It was no tthat good, my advice would be to go to Verizon or ATT(my employer) and get a USB aircard. The service is $60/mo, but it runs off of cell towers so you get DSL speeds in most places broadband in 3G markets like Huntsville and Birmingham.
