| Who do you think will be the next governor? |
|
I never would have said, or thought, this before the primaries, but I'm thinking now that Tuscaloosa dermatologist, Dr. Robert Bentley, is likely to be elected.
Bentley is probably more conservative than Bradley Byrne, and that will help him to attract Tim James and Roy Moore voters in the Republican run-off. And he's not perceived as a "nut," like Tim James or Roy Moore themselves, and that will likely be to his benefit in the general election.
I say Bentley beats Byrne by four to six points in the runoff, and that he wins the general election by a comfortable margin.
I totally hope I'm wrong, and that Ron Sparks is elected. These days, though, it takes a very skilled, polished Democrat to put together a winning coalition for a statewide office in Alabama (Don Siegelman). And Sparks doesn't really scream polish or charisma.
Apparently, I'm not very good at predicting Alabama elections though. I thought right up until primary day that Artur Davis would prevail in the Democratic primary. So this post is just for fun. I make no claims that my prediction is in anyway accurate.

| 1. Bentley legally changed his first name to "Dr.". |
|
It was an effort to get his 'title' on the ballot. The repugs still wouldn't let him do it. I think that's pretty flakey.

I still think he's the odds-on favorite.

| 3. Bentley won even more handily than I thought |

In November, neither candidate will be high on charisma. Here's hoping that Sparks can surprise everyone, and win on the issues.
