TUSCALOOSA | Muslims in the United States have had to deal with anti-Islamic sentiments as controversy rages over a proposed mosque just two blocks from ground zero.
But local Muslims say Tuscaloosa has been hospitable to them even as emotions over the proposed mosque in New York City heightened.
“I personally haven't encountered any problems with my race or religion since I've been here,” said Emad Abdel-Raouf, 26, who is originally from Egypt but has lived in Tuscaloosa for the past 16 years.
