So I understand that Rick Renzi's strongest opponent (Jackson) has dropped out of the race. There are a couple of other candidates, but they don't have name recognition, or much/any public service experience if I recall correctly, and I don't think they're loaded with megabucks a la Pedersen.
Please, please, somebody tell me that somewhere in the 1st District -- where more Dems are registered than Repugs -- there is a Dem with the talent, money and resume to mount a serious challenge to this fool? It's supposed to be a Democratic year, fer chrissake! We have a good shot at picking off Hayworth and gaining Kolbe's seat, so why can't we win in a Dem district???

| 1. alot of good Dem candidates were burned in the 02 and 04 primaries |
|
really pathetic that we let that happen, operatives wanted so much party unity behind their one candidate that by the time the primaries got around no one got along with each other and there was no party unity.
also, money, and distance. if CD1 had more urban areas, funneling volunteers would be much easier, but because it's so spread out and the population is so thin a single campaign headquarters only covers a little bit. the republicans make up for that by buying hundreds of thousands of dollars of attack ads each cycle.
our best option is, unfortunately, to wait for 2012, when redistricting kicks in and we can make the district purely rural north-central and northwest Arizona, and not the embarrassing gerrymander it resembles now.
