Womack Tells Carroll County Food Pantry Groups To Suck It!
Evidently, Congressman Womack feels that 'poor folks' and the Seniors aren't worth helping. Now, according to the article, these folks went all the way to DC just to be told that the Congressman just didn't think they were entitled to even 'moral support.' (Read lip service)

1. Typical attitude of a NW Arkansas Republican politician
Perhaps incidents like this can help the 3rd District field a strong Democratic candidate in 2012 and take back the House seat after a 44-year stranglehold by Republicans.

2. Ken Aden is a 'strong candidate.'
Ken Aden is running against Mr. Womack. He is picking up support all the time. Check out his website at: <http://aden4arkansas.com/>. Womack seems to be able to constantly remind folks in the 3rd District what a s***head he is as a Congressman.

3. Thanks for the link
I hope Aden can make a go of it. He's got a lot of work cut out for him. The 3rd District has been Republican ever since 1966/1967. And Womack has that radio station that can broadcast to just about every location in the district. Also, NW Arkansas Republicans have very deep pockets.

4. Aden is a fighter
I have the privelege of being involved in Aden's campaign. He is working his butt off to take it to Womack. If ever there is a time to bring some common sense back to the 3rd, this is it. Womack has been doing his dead level best to irritate just about every constituency he has... except for the die-hard TP'ers. As you know, most Arkies are really 'Independents' rather than party affiliated. The 3rd is no exception. Womack is so arrogant, his public comments continually reenforce the image he has of being 'patrician.' Which, in AR, can be the 'kiss of death' to an AR politician. Aden is his polar opposite; personable and truly concerned about people. It's going to be a very interesting race. Previous Dem candidates have been, shall we say, 'lackluster?' Aden is aggressive, smart and tough as nails. With adequate funding, the 3rd Dist race will be the one to watch; certainly in AR and maybe even nationally. Aden is 'Alan Grayson' with a military background.

5. Here's the problem with the 3rd District
Edited on Fri Nov-11-11 02:09 AM by Art_from_Ark
It actually is different, demographically, from the other districts since a very large proportion of its population is not originally from the area-- lots of rich retirees from other states, and a large migrant population that doesn't care about local politics. That's one reason why it is been Republican since 1966/67 (unlike the other 3 districts, which have been mostly Democratic during that time). The district voted overwhelmingly for McCain in 2008, and the only Arkansas counties that voted against Clinton in '96 were all in the 3rd District. You've got a LOT of money in the 3rd District (especially in Benton and Washington counties), and that money tends to favor Republicans. You've also got Womack owning a radio station that broadcasts to nearly the entire district, and a Republican-favoring state newspaper that has essentially taken over local newspapers. On top of that, you don't have much in the way of Arkansas elections in 2012-- no US Senate election, no race for Governor, basically just President and US Congressman (with a few local races), which suggests to me that turnout won't be so high.

I don't want to discourage you-- and I'll gladly vote for Aden. I just wanted to give some comments from someone whose first memory of an election is the 1966 race between Orville Faubus and Winthrop Rockefeller for Governor.

6. What you say is true
I would suggest you check Ken's website for a townhall event coming to a venue near you. Meet the guy and make your own decision on his chances. What has been lacking for the campaigns since JPH retired is a viable and energetic Dem candidate. LR has long written this District off and made no effort at fielding a decent candidate. Aden enjoys the one advantage most candidates lack... he has absolutely nothing to lose.

9. I'll see what I can do
It's a little early in the game (election's a year away), and I spend most of my time outside the area (I do vote there, though). I would love to man the Aden/Democratic booth at the Benton County fair, but I'm never in the area when that is held. My family is right there in the heart of Womack Country, so asking them to put up signs might be futile. But I do agree-- after a 44-year Republican stranglehold, the 3rd District does need a change.

10. Great! We can always use help making
phone calls. That can be done from anywhere. Right now we are beginning our money drive...we're calling Drive for 25! We need $25,000 by the end of the year from small donors. Feel free to do either. And although the election is a year away, we are none to early.

Thanks!

7. It's time for a change! Ken Aden
is a PROGRESSIVE Democrat who thinks that not only are seniors valuable, so are children and veterans and ordinary Arkansans. He thinks our schools are our future and that we can do more to make our state prosperous for not only the Walton family, the Tyson family and anyone who flutters a dollar bill in front of his face.
