According to a campaign finance statement filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission, Jones had $326,772 in the bank on Oct. 13, but $850,317 in unpaid debts.
The growing stack of bills includes $350,000 to a Newport Beach (Orange County) company for a direct mail pitch to voters, $31,000 to pollsters, more than $100,000 to consultants, about $40,000 for charter flights and $80,000 to the International Agri-Center in Tulare, where he held a $25-a-ticket fund- raiser last month.
In an interview Wednesday on KQED-FM in San Francisco, Jones said that his long-announced plan to put $2 million of his own money into the campaign "depends on whether I can close business deals ... I will do my level best to get it done.''
