Oakland Police to 11 Officers: You're Fired
Source: NBC

The Oakland Police Department Thursday notified 11 officers, including two sergeants, that they will be terminated for their involvement in the falsification of search warrant affidavits over the past several months, according to the city attorney's office.

An internal investigation found that the officers knew or should have known that information in their affidavits about the testing of drugs was false.

Officers were also found to have made untruthful statements in response to questions from Internal Affairs investigators, who did determine that allegations against one officer were unfounded, according to the city attorney's office.

"These terminations are difficult for the city, but they show that honesty and integrity are non-negotiable for officers in the Oakland Police Department," City Attorney John Russo said in a prepared statement Thursday.

1. smoke a joint, go to jail; lie to obtain bogus warrants, falsify legal documents...lose your job
there is something very, very wrong with that type of 'justice', IMO.

2. At least something is being done
I've seen cops like these get the horrible punishment of "Paid leave" before. WTF is that? Put my ass on some paid leave (read vacation)

10. Something is better than nothing, but
if they're breaking the law to ruin people's lives then the full force of the law should come down on them. x(

5. I suspect this has something to do with the recent riots
The Oakland police needed some positive PR fast. Still, firing corrupt cops is a good thing, whatever the reason.

6. A shame they moved it to a state forum...
What is happening in Oakland CA right now is arguably national news, especially as it pertains to the police and the corruption of their institution. I see the story about the schoolgirl being strip searched for ibuprofen and can't help but think that there is a corellation in mentality.

K&R.

8. Two more R's will get it to the greatest page where people will see it.
Side note for the grammar police (of which I am usually one): I know it should be Rs, not R's, but that looks funny and nobody but us would figure out what it meant without effort.
