Local PBS outlet KPBS/Channel 15 is back in the news business.
Tonight, the station is debuting “San Diego Week,” a 30-minute news and current-events program to be hosted by Gloria Penner. The show airs at 7 p.m.
The program will feature reports from the KPBS news team, input from viewers and members of the community, and contributions from other local media outlets. One of the regular segments will be “On the Record,” which will put a local newsmaker in the Q&A hot seat. Penner will also interview local editors and reporters about the issues of the week.
Tonight's “On the Record” guest is Alan Bersin, the Department of Homeland Security's new “border czar.” The lineup also includes a report on the Navy's expansion in San Diego County from KPBS reporter Alison St. John.
“San Diego Week” is the station's first foray into news since “Full Focus” was canceled in 2007.
