I've applied to be on the redistricting commission.
It appears over 31,000 people applied and 25,000+ people have been accepted to advance through the next stage from which 14 will be selected. You can see the stats here: https://application.wedrawthelines.ca.gov/statistics

I'm pretty sure I'm going to continue on through the next phase but I'm not sure I will be able to find 3 people who will write a letter of recommendation for me (haha!) The only person I know who might take writing such a letter seriously is a friend of mine who is a registered Republican!

1. oh no
you have to have letters of recommendation? But what about us surly curmudgeons? Don't we deserve to be represented?

I applied, doubt I'll be chosen.

2. Three letters!
The application process really seems skewed towards people who have had little political engagement but towards people who have business or professional experience in California. This was clear when the proposition was on the ballot and is why I voted against it. And fourteen commissioners are not enough to represent the broad political interests of millions of Californians. I'm hoping, though, that my professional experience in financial models, payroll, budgets, and management; combined with my personal experience of fundraising and political coalition work of bringing disparate organizations together to work on common goals will be a plus. Unfortunately, most of that work has had a decidedly liberal (some might say) radical slant!
