| Why did Udall and Salazar vote to support the anti-gay Solomon Amendment? |
|
According to the Sunday Denver Post, Diana DeGette was the only member of Colorado's House delegation to vote against the reauthorization of the Solomon Amendment, which forces colleges and universities accepting federal funds to allow military recruiters on campus.
Why did Mark Udall and John Salazar vote in favor of the Solomon Amendment? Call their offices to find out why they took this anti-gay rights position, and call Rep. DeGette's office to thank her for her courageous vote.

| 3. This is primarily a gay rights issue |

The Solomon Amendment was initially passed after a number of colleges and universities refused to allow military recruiters on campus because of the military's policy of discriminating against gay men and lesbians.
The Solomon Amendment in effect tells these schools that they must either violate their antidiscrimination policies by allowing military recruiters on campus or lose their federal funding. It's extortion, plain and simple.
Under the schools' policy, no student is barred from interviewing for a military job; the student simply cannot interview for the job on campus. This is not good enough for Congress, however.
I would be interested in learning why Mark Udall and John Salazar voted to keep the Solomon Amendment in place.
