Fort Collins. What's it like?

Is it nice, not so nice, progressive, freeperish... you tell me.

1. it's nice enough

a college town, good liberal base but a good share of wingnuts as well

we have three awesome breweries, some pretty good places to eat and enough bars that you can always find a place to fit the mood

but the public transportation sucks and people don't know how to drive

i grew up here and can't wait to get out, so my opinion may not be the best

2. I moved here in 2002. It's just large enough for this big city girl.

Unfortunately the city council is finally getting off its butt regarding redirecting the city's economy. We've lost many jobs from the tech bust.

Colorado State is an all right school. Old Town's a pretty good place to hang out - lots of bars. Coffee shops are springing up on every corner, which is nice.

3. I worked there for two years.

Part-time, though--I commuted from Denver.

They have some very good restaurants. Lucile's is to-die-for cajun. Lots of funky little Mexican food places. Many independent coffee shops, but also plenty of Starbucks.

I worked at a UU church, so my perspective is generally not freeperish. However, it is in Marilyn Musgrove's congressional district, a truly nutty woman who is a fiery force behind the proposed federal Marriage Amendment. Like all of Colorado, Fort Collins has a bit of a split personality, but it's nowhere near as conservative as Colorado Springs.
