| Hanky Panky in choosing state's college presidents |
|
It began when Owens tried to force the Colorado State University (CSU) to appoint Mark Holtzam as its president. The regents considered him and then chose someone who was qualified.
A Fort Lewis journalism student was recognized for her reporting of an illegal closed-door meeting that appointed its college president.
Now Front Range Community College is embroiled in controversy over the appointment of its new president. First, the old president who had opposed joining a consolidation of the 13 community colleges in the Colorado system was forced out of her job. State Representative Judy Solano (D) has "called for an investigation into former president Janet Gullickson's resignation and the manner in which Reinertson, the new president, was appointed." Protocols of involving the faculty and students in appointing the new president were not followed.
Finally, the Colorado School of Mines is replacing it's retiring very popular president,Physics professor John Trefny, by also ignoring the faculty and students. Bill Owens' brother-in-law is on the board that will appoint the new president.
What does this mean? Cronyism is embedded in Colorado's college system.
Note, Hank Brown, a republican, this August become president of CU (University of Colorado) after RW talk radio forced the previous president to resign after the football rape scandal. CU just won its third Nobel prize.
Metro State College remains under Bruce Benson, a former republican candidate for governor, who has repeatedly attacked the tenure system.
That's the news from Colorado where all our children are below average and can't find jobs because of our corrupt republican government.

| 1. Well, for what it's worth, I don't think Hank Brown will hurt CU. |
|
I've always thought he was an old style Republican, and not just another "crony". But the School of Mines, Metro State, and Front Range do look like just a bunch of friends of Bill.

| 2. Wish Hoffman hadn't been forced out by RW radio. Mixed reviews on Brown |
|
so far. He banned alcohol at school functions which is good since that seems to be a huge problem. He also eliminated 10 teaching positions that were waiting to be filled which is bad.
There is much to do. The graffiti is out of control at CU and conservative students are nothing but bullies. Barnett remains the football coach and he must be fired for his sexist remarks and for covering for a couple of rapists.

| 3. I agree that CU football needs a serious attitude adjustment. |
|
And conservative students, out of control bullies? Let's start up a fund to send them to Bob Jones University.
I'm sorry about Betsy Hoffman, and Barnett needs to go. He is a dinosaur. It must be the alumns that keep his job going. I don't care how "good" he is. He is a clueless jerk and an embarrassment to the university. It is past time to stop enabling this dysfunctional jock culture. IMHO
