Just back from voting in Denver. No cameras allowed.

The poll worker managing the line just before getting to the screens notified all of us in line that cameras in the voting area were not allowed. I didn't have one with me, and in my district it's not likely to be an issue (no Senate vote, unopposed Representative), but other Colorado voters in more competitive districts may be thinking of having a camera.

The poll worker didn't cite state law for the rule, I didn't question her. Does someone familiar with Colorado law know more?

Side note that presents a technicality for argument: As I stood in line, Senator Salazar was casting his votes at a screen a few feet away. In front of him, documenting the moment... a newspaper photographer, with camera. I guess some cameras are allowed.

actually, it had to do with other countries having laws against bringing cellphones that can take pictures into a polling place. The article was from 2005, and the author said that he didn't know of any US states where it was illegal - but maybe laws have been passed since then?

The reason it was against the law in these other places was to prevent vote buying schemes where the voter would record his or her vote by taking a picure as proof for whomever was buying their vote.

That's a silly law. I really want a receipt for my votes, I get one when I use my
credit card and I would like some verification that my vote got recorded the way I meant it.

If you want to prevent people buying votes, make it a felony for both the buyer and purchasers of vote and include provisions in the law to void that election.

If people want to keep confidential their votes, that fine, but I have no problem with telling people how I voted.

I think more than one person took out a camera phone to take a shot of him voting. That may have prompted the announcement.
