Our local mayor has been the subject of a couple of posts here. Briefly, he's a school security guard with delusions of knowing stuff. He's a chum (or chump, depending on who you're talking to) of our DA and sheriff, both of whom have some issues with the ACLU's recent successful prosecution of a nasty case against them. His campaign violated some laws, including plaigiarism and illegal use of mail boxes, and he was funded largely out of the Dobsonite community in the southern part of the state. His placement in the mayor's seat came about as retaliation against the former mayor who had brazenly suggested that we ought to be humane in our policies toward immigrants. Prior to his election he was castigated for drawing a gun on some highschool students in a car, claiming that they 'looked like' gang members (they weren't). After his election he objected to the noise from a scooter being driven by a teenager, so he yanked the kid off the bike and threw him to the ground to 'hold' him for the police. During last year's campaign season he was 'guarding' at an elementary school and showed the students a $3 bill with a picture of Obama wearing a turban.
He said he wasn't going to run for re-election, and blamed the local paper for giving him a bad reputation and opined that said paper should go out of business (nevermind the 200+ jobs that would be lost were that to happen). Then he changed his mind and filed to be a write-in candidate. Then he changed his mind back.
So, yeah, I about shot coffee out my nose when this little gem appeared in this morning's newspaper:
"Greeley Mayor Ed Clark will be the guest speaker at the Greeley 9.12 Project's 2009 Mayoral Candidate Forum on Saturday."
