HARTFORD - Saying this is an opportunity to shape the campaign for governor around the issues of children and public education, the Connecticut Education Association - more than 40,000 teachers strong - has endorsed Ned Lamont in the Democratic primary for governor.

CEA President Phil Apruzzese said, "We are convinced that public education will be front and center in a Lamont administration. Ned understands that teachers' insights and perspectives are invaluable in school improvement efforts. He has deep respect for teachers as professionals who care deeply about their students. He will provide educators a central role in his administration's efforts to transform schools. It's clear that Ned will stand strong on behalf of public education as the state confronts a massive fiscal deficit."

According to CEA, public educators are energized and excited by the Lamont candidacy. Lamont indicated to CEA that he wants teachers by his side, helping grow our state and protecting the most vulnerable citizens – our children. CEA Executive Director John Yrchik said, "Ned will build a partnership with teachers because he recognizes their service on the frontlines of public education. Public education is the key to rebuilding our economy, and Ned has strong opinions about this issue."

Congrats to the Lamont campaign. And a pretty big endorsement on the day of the first big debate between Ned Lamont and Dan Malloy.
