Mc Mahon planning to spend $50 million to buy
Senate seat

http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2010/08/11/news/doc4c6201e088170919441015.txt

I can't believe how stupid republicans are. Simmons would have been a good candidate for them. He has lots of foreign policy experience. I heard him on Dankowsy's program last week and he was very knowledgable. When he starting talking domestic policy, however, I started yelling at the radio. Typical RW repub talking points.

But what the poof does "Linda" bring to the table ? Nothing, except that we lose our supermajority in the Senate. We lost Teddy's seat. We can't afford to lose this one. The last thing this country needs is another Repub in the Senate.

1. It tells you a lot about Republicans, doesn't it?
I don't want a Republican elected but look at the candidates they chose...McMahon over Simmons, who besides the political views I do not agree with is a decent
man with nothing to tarnish his record or reputation. And he is a war veteran. And in the primary for Gov. they chose the man who was arrested for domestic abuse among other things instead of either of the two other candidates. Tells you a lot. As much as they like to talk about values they would vote for Attila the Hun if he could win. When it comes right down to it they don't care about the values or reputation of their candidate.

2. She supports : extending Bush tax cuts, repealing the estate tax, balanced budget amendment.
Believer in supply-side economics. She is unqualified for the office.

3. She has cut into Blumenthal's large lead
whether she can close the gap has yet to be seen. Blumenthal hasn't run in a competitive race in years, so it will be interesting to see what his strategy is.

4. Maybe it's my typical New England pessimism
But, I've seen Blumenthal's lead go from 25 to 20 to 17 and now to 10.

Blumenthal used to be on TV all the time with various A/G related things. Now, he seems to get no publicity except the negative NY Times that was mostly debunked about him lying about military service

5. I hope his strategy includes keeping away from
negative campaigning. I think most CT voters are turned off by it. I read some comments from primary voters today on our local online newssite. They were turned off by the robocalls and by candidates calling each other liars.

Turn out was only about 30% in our town out of approx. 9000 eligible voters. There are another 9000 or so unaffiliated.

I saw a lot of "Linda" signs along the roads on the way to work this am. It occurred to me that its not a strategy "Dick" can employ - using his first name only LOL

6. Every election people complain about negative ads and robocalls
I predict the same complaints will happen by this General Election Day in November.

7. People hate negative campaigning, but it works
everybody dislikes negative campaigning and will state so in every poll out there. However, negative campaigning works.

Look at the Dukakis Willie Horton ad - Dukakis was up 15-18 in the polls following the '88 DNC. The Willie Horton ad comes out & Dukakis does not respond. He never recovers his momentum and loses by 10.

Or, the Kerry Swiftboating... Kerry responded vigorously, but his responses got 0 air time. Meanwhile, the media gave 24/7 coverage to the swiftboaters for a month. Pre swiftboating, Kerry had 2/3 of the military vote. Afterwards, he had 1/3.

9. The McMahon's treatment of their workers is very relevant here.
In addition, Linda McBreitbart is hellbent on going back to Dubya's failed economic policies.

14. The McMahon's mistreatment
of their workers reflects how they believe all workers should be treated.

11. Well, she's wasting at least SOME of that money
Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 05:02 PM by Autumn Colors
Our household consists of two lifelong democratic voters who vote in EVERY election. We've been getting bombarded by junk mail and robocalls from her campaign. The junk mail is always in my boyfriend's name, but our home phone number is in my name, not his.

It got to the point where bf and I took phone numbers with us to the primary polling station in case we got there and found out someone had switched our registration to republican without our knowledge, but no, we were both still registered democrats.

In the past couple of weeks, I've called her campaign office and left multiple messages there to remove my number from their list, that there were only lifelong democratic voters here and no one in our house would be voting for her no matter what so please stop bothering us. I've also sent back their junk mail with a similar note written on it a couple of times.

So they're targeting people whose votes they have absolutely ZERO chance of getting and continue to waste their money doing this after these people have told them more than once to stop.

And besides the fact that she's a republican, I also really wouldn't want someone who spends money this foolishly running the State of Connecticut for that reason alone.

12. I loved this line about her from Colin McEnroe's column
in the 8/22 edition of the Hartford Courant

<ship>She also chided reporters for making her "spend so much time talking about the WWE," as opposed to her other qualifications, such as the pressing need for a U.S. senator named Linda. <snip>

His entire column is here:

Lots more on her on his blog

13. We have received no less than 4 dozen mailers from her.
Wasted money since the empire of death will NEVER get a single vote from our household.
