| Adrian Fenty just knocked on my door. |
|
At this point I have absolutely no clue who I am going to vote for in the Mayor's race. But so far, Adrian Fenty is the only candidate whose campaign has even tried to contact me -- I think they've left lit here three or four times already.
So, I just got a knock on my door, and it was Adrian Fenty himself. (!) We talked briefly. I couldn't think of anything specific to ask him because I wasn't expecting to get an actual candidate knock on my door. I did have the presence of mind to ask why I should vote for him instead of the others.
I don't remember much of what he said, to be honest. The main point seemed to be stuff like good and efficient government, delivering services, and running government like a business.
His staffer asked who I was going to vote for and I said I didn't know. He asked if I was leaning toward Fenty, and I said I didn't know but I am definitely considering voting for him and I am impressed by the fact that his campaign seems to be well organized and I'm impressed that the candidate actually came to my home.
Pretty cool. Anyone else have any contact with any of the campaigns yet?

I attended a candidate forum earlier this spring and Marie Johns really impressed me. Her past experience as a Verizon executive and civic leader would be a breath of fresh air for this city. She is the only one who would shake this government up and get the government workers moving. My second choice is Fenty. Cropp is 100 percent politician. Fenty is now the front-runner in the polls so be on the look out for Cropp's dirty tricks.
Door-to-door campaigning takes time and is tedious but time and time again, it has proved it's the most effective way to win votes.

I can tell you that the only way to get DC government workers is to end the absolute NEED to hire and retain residents. Right now, all of the qualified residents already work for DC. New residents aren't moving in at the income levels offered by 90% of DC Gov't jobs. Hell, most of the DC 'residents' with hiring and promotional preference live in Maryland.
I don't expect any of the candidates to be successful at ending that bit of nepotism.
