CHRISTIAN PEACE WITNESS FOR IRAQ
March 16, 2007 Washington, DCIn order to to call on our nation's leaders to end the War On Iraq, more than twenty Christian organizations will gather in our nation's capital on Friday evening, March 16th for a worship service, a march to the White House and actions of civil disobedience. In addition to the Christian Alliance for Progress, sponsoring organizations include such diverse bodies as Sojourners, Pax Christi, the American Friends Service Committee and the Peace Fellowships of a host of denominations, from the Baptists to the Charismatics to the Mennonites. Conservatives, liberals, Protestants, Catholics--all of us will be laying aside our differences on other matters in order to say with one voice that this war is wrong and must end now.

Whatever else you had planned to be doing, could anything else be more important? At a time when the government is ramping up the war effort it is crucial that American Christians tell our leaders and the world that this war is an affront to the message and teaching of Jesus Christ and that it imperils the peace and stability of the world. Four years of this senseless conflict have made it clear--our aggression in Iraq has made things worse, not better and prolonging this misguided action will do nothing but delay the inevitable result. It is time for the Church to speak as one voice out of the resources of our faith the truth about this conflict.
An informational web site will be up in a matter of days which will provide further details of the event as well as a place to register. We will be sending out further details as they become available.
