| DC'ers...need your help finding a hotel. |
|
I would like to take my girlfriend to DC for her birthday this weekend. Could any of you please recommend a hotel that is either near the monuments or near the Smithsonian museums or both?
Also, if for some reason this is a bad weekend to come to DC, please let me know...I am purposefully trying to aviod taking here there near inaguration time.
Thanks a ton!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Select out in Bethesda back in april, and it was almost $200 per night. But it was also a busy week.

| 6. i can pay that if necessary... |

i through that number out based on the rates i saw on the net...which will likely be lower than if i were to call the hotel to make a reservation.

With the Metro, you can get anywhere in the city in a matter of minutes, and cheaply. I think you can buy a day pass for 3-4 dollars.

The stations are well-lit, and traffic is still pretty heavy even at night, between shift workers going to and from jobs and partiers trekking around town.

yes. Frankly almost the entirety of downtown DC is as safe at night as any major city in the country. Both my girlfriend and I routinely walk everywhere, even at night with <knock on wood> no major problems.
you can probably get a nice room for that rice on a weekend. try the Kimpton hotels, Rouge is nice a sexy red theme), Helix is more modern, movie star-ish, Topaz is more westcoasty, new age stuff. All well located, all with hip bars/restaurants, at all of them, you can get a king sized bed in a nice room for about 130 plus tax. you can book online at www.kimptonhotels.com they are also well located in interesting parts of the city (nightlife, restaurants, etc.)

We stayed at a place called Jurys, which is right on Dupont Circle. I think I remember it being under $100/night in October. It was a very nice 3 1/2 star hotel, and the Metro is right there. The Metro takes you to all the places of interest. A daily pass is $3-4 and yes, it's safe in the evenings.

George Washington University Inn, which is two short blocks from the Metro. If you are there to visit GWU, by the way, the room is cheaper. I can't remember the price, but it was VERY reasonable.

...a couple of Holiday Inn Express' in downtown DC. Scroll down to the DC locations. A friend stayed at the 14th Street one and it was pretty nice: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/availsearch?errorURL=/h/d/ex/home&availCheckCaching=n&_requestid=1530968And yes, the Metro is safe at night and is definitely the way to go. Don't bother to rent a car.
