Obama proposes health insurance plan; Keyes questions Obama's language
CHICAGO - Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Barack Obama on Tuesday proposed a plan to help small businesses get affordable health insurance while his Republican rival questioned comments Obama made last week in saying he wanted to give his opponent an Election Day "spanking."
GOP nominee Alan Keyes said that Obama, after addressing a group in southern Illinois, said he wanted to do more than just win the election.
"I don't want to just win, I want to give this guy who is running against me a spanking," Keyes quoted Obama as saying.
The conservative from Maryland said Obama then said that he wanted to give Keyes a spanking because he exemplified the "kind of scorched-earth, slash-and-burn negative campaign that has become the custom in Washington and it is the reason why we can't get anything done."
