Danny Davis??? What Gives?

The last time I remember Danny Davis, he was going after Eddie Vrydolyak in the Harold Washington/Council War Days. Then a couple weeks ago I saw him when the first posts about Moon's "coronation" came out. I took a double-take, I've been double-taking ever since.

I know he's been a Congressman for over a decade and a friend who lives in his district was just as surprised as I was to see this thing. Was Davis a Moonie? Was he currying favor with the Washington Times? Why was he holding that crown?

Yesterday I finally heard him respond to it...in a very non-chalant way...that he didn't really know that this was being staged as a "Moon" event, but one he was asked to participate in by the Congressional Black Caucus. Or maybe I caught his explanation wrong.

I know Davis has a solid voting record and I remember some of his eloquent speeches in days gone by, but this just doesn't make sense.

1. There's more to the story, but will we ever find out

the truth? There was coverage of this on NPR yesterday, but like most news coverage now it was quite incomplete. They did mention the Rethugs in attendance claimed to have been tricked, as usual. The main point was that someone had to invite Moon to be in the Dirksen Building, but of course at this time no one knows who. I was also disappointed because I believe I had seen earlier that Charly Rangel was in attendance. The story covered the fact that Moon had bought out the Conservative Rethugs and was now trying to buy out the Black Caucus. Like our pResident, Moon claims to be on a mission from God and was sent to correct Jesus' F-ups. It's sad that money means more to the pols than anything.

I think it's as simple as that. Moon is trying to buy his way into the Congressional Black Caucus.

5. Seems The Pieces Sadly Fit...

Could this be the axiom of "absolute power corrupts absoblutely"? I've heard several others mention the CBC has been accepting money from a lot of strange bedfellows, including Moon and some PACs tied to the Christian Coalition...looking at buying their way in, and I just wonder how many are listening? This video showed a bunch did.

When I first saw the video it was a Real Audio file...grainy and jerky motion...and just a few moments...but I saw a longer stretch on TV the other night (including Davis carrying the crown and Moon & His wife (I assume) wearing them) and I felt dirty just watching. Reminded me of the creepy moonies and TM'ers from the 70's I knew.

We still don't know who issued the invite to use the facilities. There was the lame excuse they didn't know Moon was tied to it, but the report I saw mentioned that the invitation mentioned the Washington Times was "hosting" the event. No one read their invites? Obviously, the check in the envelope got more attention.

I sure hope Danny isn't turning into another Gus Savage. I wonder how much more legs this story has? This thing happened in March...and I remember seeing posts here shortly thereafter...and here it's July and finally it gets some "ink". That's also curious.

Oh well...stuff not to really think too much about on a nice weekend.
