Chocola sees no evidence of abuse at Guantanamo
Congressman defends U.S. base after tour

By JAMES WENSITS
Tribune Political Writer

SOUTH BEND -- U.S. Rep. Chris Chocola, fresh from a visit to the government detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, said he "didn't see any evidence of abuse" there.

Chocola and several other members of Congress flew to the U.S. naval facility Saturday aboard a military craft to witness firsthand how detainees in the war on terror are being treated.

The Bristol Republican reported on the trip during a Tribune interview Monday.

The naval facility came under public scrutiny earlier this year following a Newsweek magazine report -- later retracted -- that said a U.S. soldier had flushed one detainee's Quran down a toilet.

That allegation, as a practical matter, "probably couldn't happen," said Chocola, noting that the detention area has Asian-style toilets but doesn't have American flush toilets.

1. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be trite, but...his name is *Chocola?* As in
"Count?"

sorry.

I mean, there's not much else to say apart from "stupid fucking corrupt asshole," and how many times can you say that in one five-year period?

4. How about 2 years in a wire cage,
no communication with the outside world, no charges etc., etc.

That's abuse to me. Maybe he confuses "abuse" with "torture."

Of course they're not gonna show him "torture". What a fucking idiot.

5. I could slap Chocola's bare ass with my riding crop
He might call it torture, I would call it love. It is all in the eye of the beholder. If human rights means nothing to you, no amount of abuse will bother you. Chocola is no different from Bush, a man that as governor relished every execution under his watch.

8. I hate to admit it, but I used to be a next door neighbor of him...
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 07:57 PM by calipendence
when I was growing up and he was in grade school in Michigan. Used to do yardwork along with him for his uncle, who was also my dad's boss at the time and owner of the development we lived in. Kind of a whiny kid then. His older sister was a real b*tch! His dad owned a pool supply business that he took over, which helped him make his bucks early on...
