| Mitch is blaming poor job climate in Indiana on... Hoosiers! |
|
Just saw an ad on cable (watching TNT ... I believe it is less expensive to buy on local cable (lesser channels, smaller local viewing audience) than on local network. None the less the theme was "Log in and Lighten up".
Ad starts with showing overweight people - Mitch says that high health care costs (while showing pics of heavy people) are preventing companies from locating in Indiana... then shows lots of local (to pay for) gyms... and talks about getting in shape ... implied message - because you are not in shape, there are no jobs because health insurance is too high in this state because you are... TOO FAT.
Don't know that this is the intended message of the ad, but it seems like a very poor motiviational ad to encourage folks to engage in healther lifestyles, and instead leaves lingering the suggestion that the poor performance in gaining new jobs (and ignores the announcements of huge job losses (think Delphi)) on Hoosiers themselves ... b/c some are overweight. Seems like a very stupid ad campaign for a governor whose approval ratings have fallen into the thirties.

... when all you can afford to feed your family is ramen noodles and mac n' cheese, and you don't have insurance to have access to preventative health care, and you can't pay for your kids to participate in the soccer/basketball/tennis leagues like Mitch's rich friends' can ... folks tend not to be too healthy.
It's a vicious cycle. :(

the overweight people I saw wearing My Man Mitch Green T-Shirts during the last election think about this? That's right they don't think!

And I live in the middle of the koolaid abusers. I haven't seen this commercial, but it sounds pretty daring.

"Ditch Mitch!" --- of course about half the time it is just hearing my own voice saying the catchy phrase ;-)

I can tell you that there are MANY reasons people become overweight, and then even more reasons why sometimes it's difficult to make it GO AWAY.
Lemme guess, this guy has never had a weight problem?
I've lost and kept off starting 4 years ago approx 200 pounds (and it has taken all of this time to lose that much), but still have a long way to go......and my age doesn't help that either. The older you get, the harder it is to lose the excess weight.

Sadly, the ad campaign is pretty one-dimensional - and certainly doesn't even come near to acknowledging the many reasons people become overweight in the first place.

| 9. So, it's MY fault that I have to work in KY? |

And, given the high gas prices and piss-poor bus service between my home and my job, I may have to move south of the river. But thanks, Mitch, for telling me where the blame really lies. :sarcasm:
