How is everyone? I think that Kerry has a much better shot at beating Shrub here than in any of the other southern states. We have a Democratic Senator and a Governor who both withstood the onslaught of the Rove machine to squeeze out victories and the economy is in the shitter (worse than usual). I think the state is in the bag for Kerry if he picks one of our Senators or Wesley Clark. If he doesn't I would like to hear people's suggestions about what we can do to make Louisiana a blue state once again! thanks!

Hi Damkira, Abbeville here. Yes, I am in love with my state again since we elected a dem governor, thank God. I would love for Kerry to choose one of our senators for VP candidate, but I think it's a long shot. What I would like to see for LA is a dem governor, dem legislature, strong unions for our teachers, police and firefighters, and planned-parenthood clinics in all towns. Getting kinda discouraged tho...I hear nothing but neocon crap all day from co-workers, tv stations, radio, newspapers, etc. Thank God for the internet.

Hi AnnInLa! Glad to know there is somebody in the area! Let me know if you guys get anything going for Kerry in Vermilion Parish. We have a small group in New Iberia that has had a couple Meet Ups here in town. Let me know if you want me to add you to our list, and I'll send you an invite for our next get together!

Hi New Iberia! I am going to the Lafayette Dem Meet Up tonight, for the first time. Don't really know what to expect at one of these, so can you give me a clue or two? Yes, I would like to be added to your contact list, as it is easier and quicker for me to drive to N.I. than to Lafayette. How do I send you an email with my email info? Ann

Hi Damkira, Are you going to the Dem Meet Up tonight at B&N? It will be my first time, and I don't know quite what to expect. Are you a teacher too? As you know, last Saturday, Vermilion Parish had an election to approve a 3/4 cent sales tax increase to fund a teachers' salaries increase, but it failed by a large margin. It is so disheartening...our morale is at an all-time low, with many teachers now looking at retirement.
Are yall (wow, I can say "yall" in here!) as thrilled as I am about Air America Radio?? I got SO tired of reading our conservative newspapers and listening to our conservative TV news shows and radio shows. Last night I sent thank-you emails to 6 sponsors of AAR, and got one back this morning from Pet Smart, thanking me for my kind thank you note.

You know as well as I do that while the state is Democratic controlled, most of the Democrats here are by national standards Republicans without the appeal to the religious right. Mary Landrieu is about as liberal as it gets in a state-wide race. Although, our economy is definately in the shitter especially compared to other states. Kerry could win here but I just don't think that it's very likely.

Yes, Landrieu would be a great addition to the Kerry campaign, but I don't see it happening either.
Well, am going to pick up my Kerry signs for my yard soon. During the last presidential theft, uh election, I couldn't keep a Gore sign in my yard...people kept stealing them in the night. I am amazed at the hate displayed by my hometown toward Gore and Dems in general.
I used to have a Pro-Choice bumper sticker, but after getting hate mail, some of which had death threats (pro-life??) in them, I had to remove the bumper sticker. Sometimes, living in LA sucks!

although hopefully he won't do like Gore. We don't really need a DINO like that..

Because he is a big help to fellow Louisiana democrats trying to get elected. But all in all I'd say he's too conservative for the national ticket. I don't know how much he'd be willing to criticize Chenney for Halliburton, etc. during the debates.

of what was doable in the political middle while still being safe. That may not sound very bold or leadership worthy, but Clinton would have had a much easier first couple of years if he had listened to Breaux. Breaux is a little too conservative for my tastes but he always seemed like a decent guy willing to help with whatever he could.

I don't think it'll happen. He doesn't have as much name recoognition as the others.
I'm fairly confident it will be Edwards, no not Edwin...LOL

Despite the fact that he's a convicted fellon, he's still quite popular here in Louisiana. It's the usual "the crook is better than the racist" mentality. What GREAT choices we have here in Louisiana.

working hard far. I worked hard for Landrieu from the beginning. I worked for another Dem before Blanco but was solid in the runoff. Even helped that would be turncoat Cong. Alexander get elected. I think Louisiana is trending Dem. With a good VP pick (Clark, Landrieu) Kerry has better than a 50% chance of taking LA. It feels great to have our own forum. :)

I was a Randy Edwing fan myself, looked like the only one of the bunch that wasn't totally corrupt. Unfortunately, he only got 10% and we were stuck with Blanco. I'm glad she won the runoff, because she's much better than Jindal, but by national standards she's basically a DINO.

We're a little subdivision between Ferriday and Vidalia. I display my DU, Kerry, and antiBush bumperstickers with pride! While this area has its share of repugs, we do have plenty of Dems.

Conservative as it is, what I hear is that everyone is fed up with Junior. Comment heard about Bush yesterday - "Yeah, and Edwards lied to us and robbed up blind for how-many years, but at least he had some CLASS."

Hi Northshore,
I found the comment on Edwards that you heard very interesting. I have heard the same comment hundreds of times and am wondering why Louisiana people have such a love/hate relationship with Edwards. Many of the older people think that he was a crook, but they admire him anyway for his honesty (?), and would vote for him again if they could. I am guilty of the same...I voted for him because he always seemed to help education, even tho I knew he was as crooked as could be. Things just seemed to run smoother with the Edwards machine in office. (Don't bash me, I have changed my thinking lately.) But, am wondering about the character of the Louisiana voter when Edwards still has so many admirers and people who wax nostalgic for the good ole days.
Let's start a thread on Edwin and his strange populist appeal...anyone?

Yeah I know, Edwards may have been a crook and a liar but at least he was a somewhat likeable guy.
I can say something positive about pretty much everybody, but nothing about Shrub...
