| I won a lunch with Mary Landrieu tonight!! |
|
I was at a silent auction and one of the items that were auctioned off was a lunch at Ruth Chris' Steak House with Mary Landrieu.
There were two other bidders and you could tell we all really wanted to win. But I placed the highest bid, so now I get to go to lunch with Mary!! Yeah for me!!
:woohoo:
Now I have to figure out what am I going to say/talk to her about.
I want to be respectful, but I haven't been very happy with the way she has been voting lately.
Any ideas?

...At the same time, do some research and state the areas that you agree with her on. That's the way the world should work.

| 2. Yes, specifically about her vote on the Bankruptcy Bill |
|
Louisiana has such a population of poor people, I am amazed that she voted against the interests of her constituency. I am really interested in her justification for her vote with the repukes.
Please ask her to hold the Dem line on the "Nuclear Option" which Frist will raise, probably this week, but definitely this month, and to join in any filibuster which the Dems may launch in response to those horrible bush-federal-judicial appointments that will be brought back.
We recognize that she may be vulnerable if the GOP decides to go after her seat big time in the next election...so, I'm sure she rides the fence alot so as not to alarm the repukes here too much...but, as a Dem, she must start voting her Dem principles!
Personally, would love to see her stand firm on the GOP's attacks on women's rights, and to stand firm against all the phoney-baloney bills that will result as an effect of the Schiavo circus. The right to die with dignity, privacy and choice is a biggie with me!
Well, those are my ideas...I would LOVE to be able to discuss issues with her, you are SO lucky...Please let us know after the event, how it went!!!

The nuclear option assumes that the fillibuster is not constitutional.. however it IS constitutional because the Senate can make its own rules. I have an editorial about why the fillibuster is constitutional on my personal webpage http://www.danieljzimmerman.com

| 5. Really. Wish I had that opportunity... |

I understand her pandering to big oil, but I still think I'd have to discuss alternative energy with Mary. I'm still convinced we can ride that issue home. You know, just... probably not in Louisiana.

I have to set up a time. I was asking what I should talk to her about. I have my own ideas, but I wanted some input.
I'll post how it goes.
So, anything you want me to ask her, Funkybutt?

I'd imagine we probably have similar ideas about questions for Mary and I'd like to hear more about what you have in mind. One thing I think I'd like to know is: How she intends to deal with waning support from her constituents. I'm sure you've noticed this and I'm curious how she intends to deal with it. I understand that not every vote in a state like Louisiana can be a progressive one, but many KEY votes that she's cast lately have appeared to be in support of the other side and not in the best interests of Louisianians. From what I understand, the Democratic Party on a national level pulled out ALL the stops to get her in office and she won by a fairly tight margin. The day after the November elections, billboards went up in North Louisiana saying things like, "You're next Mary." So not only do the republicans have her in their sites but democrats nation wide are unhappy with her. In the days after key votes on bankruptsy and Alaskan oil, Mary's name was splattered all over the General Discussion forums here. You may want to pose this question to the whole board. Many of the responses will likely be too inflamatory but you may get some really good ideas from the responses.

I'd like to ditto AnnInLa... I was furious at her postiion on the bankruptcy vote... I called an emailed her office before the vote, and for the life of me I can't understand how she could have voted the way she did. There are some issues I can understand "sitting on the fence" about, but that was disgraceful.
