Pet Shelter in Lafayette
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 07:33 PM by Triana
This is from a mailing list I'm on. I'm not Nancy but she authorized this to be posted far and wide. Sorry I didn't make that clear when I originally posted! Do call them if you need more info or want to help. Sounds like they have plenty of supplies so not sure if they need anything else but you could always ask.

Pet shelter in Lafayette

I don't have time to spend on the internet finding and learning how to

post right now. Please just let all members know that we have opened a

pet shelter at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, right next to the

Cajundome. Evacuees may bring their pets their for housing. We have

PLENTY of food, water, crates, cages, bedding and newspaper. BUT the

owners are responsible for feeding, watering, walking and medicating

their own pets.

Interested parties may call Lafayette Parish Animal Control at

337-291-5644 for more information.

Also many area vets are accepting animals right now, until they fill up.

Get the Yellow Pages out!

Please help me to get this word out. I've been working non-stop!

THANKS!

Nancy Marcantel

for helping the animals of New Orleans and surrounding areas. Could you let everyone know where to send supplies/money to help out.

4. I have to point out that I'm not Nancy...
..sorry for the confusion. This was something that I got in email from a group I belong to (Gulf Coast Pet Rescue and Transport) and they asked that we cross-post far and wide so some folks at least could take their animals to a shelter and know they're safe and cared for. I should have clarified that in my post.

One of the best agencies besides the obvious ones of SPCA and HSUS are Naoh's Wish. I'll link all three below.

https://secure.hsus.org/01/katrina_relief/

Best bet for info about what GCPRT needs is to call them!

9. LVMA Animal Shelter Info
Please see my above post in Temporary Homes needed for pets in New Orleans. I have too few posts to start a new thread, so if anyone could do so that would be great. The LVMA has animal shelters for those animals affected by the hurricane.

Please pass this info along to anyone who needs it. We just opened up here at LSU Baton Rouge Parker Ag Center, and I've been here almost nonstop since Wednesday.
