Did anyone else hear Blitzer saying that "Mitch Landrieu
who is Attorney General of the State of Louisiana, will be running for mayor of NO against Nagin"? Who is their fact checker, and is there another Landrieu sibling running for Mayor of NO?

6. Absolutely....
His dad, "Moon" Landrieu was a long-term Democratic mayor of New Orleans and both children have stayed with the party., unlike so many other young white politicians in the deep south

8. Can he win? Are there enough folks in NOLA to vote?
Will displaced NOLA people be able to vote absentee?

My (very white, bigoted and Republican) in-laws are busy making fun of Nagin's chocolate remark. They don't have a clue that he was a $500,000/year cable executive and Republican prior to becoming NOLA mayor. :eyes:

9. I don't know but I thought he was one of the few local and state leaders
who came out of Katrina looking good.

He was on a boat saving people in the aftermath of Katrina.

3. I know he was down there rescueing people right after the hurricane
and I do believe he is Mary Landrieus' brother. He earned my respect when I same him doing something to help the people after the storm.

11. Thanks
I am now hearing that he is running. I knew he was Lt. Governor. Doesn't this put Kathleen in a vulnerable position as far as recall effort is concerned? Would we have to have another election for Lt. Gov.? As it is, wouldn't Mitch be Governor if Kathleen was recalled? I am worried about the scattered democrats from the hurricanes. Not sure if we could get a dem elected right now.

Landrieu to announce he'll run against Nagin
Forman considers joining the fray

Tuesday, January 31, 2006
By Frank Donze
Staff writer

Handing New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin perhaps his most formidable political challenge to date, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu has decided to place his name on the April ballot, a key Landrieu supporter said Monday.

But an ally who requested anonymity said Landrieu informed key supporters across the city and state during the weekend of his intention to run for mayor.
Another potential candidate, Audubon Institute Chief Executive Ron Forman, said Landrieu told him the same thing Monday.

While Landrieu is expected to publicly announce his candidacy in a written statement this week, a source said a formal declaration with a kickoff event and a campaign speech likely won't come until after the Legislature's special session set for Feb. 6-17.

The mayoral primary has been scheduled for April 22, with a runoff, if needed, on May 20. Qualifying for the race will be March 1-3.
