Louisiana Election Day: We now have electronic voting in So. LA. :(

The new voting machines used in my parish are Sequoia's AVC Advantage. These days, because of electronic voting, the key candidate seems to be Secretary of State. I voted for Francis C. Heitmeier because he's a Democrat, although I confess I don't know very much about him, other than the fact that he has served as both a state senator & representative.

2. Good news for now is that the Democrat, Heitmeier, is in 2nd place

of all 7 candidates. In the lead is Dardenne with 175,225 (30%); Heitmeier has 162,012 (27%). That's as of 10:30 p.m., with 3,461 of 3,960 precincts reporting.

3. I was an election commissioner

We had the new Sequoia machines also. Absolutely no problems and our numbers totalled up perfectly. I was pleased with the security measures involved. The print out on the machine is checked against 3 other sources.

If you add the R votes up, he didn't have a chance.(427,370 R to 178,686 D with 35,917 Ind/Lib)


BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — State Sen. Francis Heitmeier dropped out of the runoff election Tuesday to become Louisiana's next secretary of state, essentially handing the post to his colleague, state Sen. Jay Dardenne.

Heitmeier blamed his decision on the displacement of south Louisiana voters who form the Democrat's base in the New Orleans area.

"After a close analysis of the vote, it seemed clear that turnout would not be much better on November 7th, and that it would take a large revenue stream to mount a major get out the vote effort," Heitmeier said in a statement.
