NOLA DUers: What say you to an end-of-year visit?

Later in the week I'm going to the mainland for two conferences about a week apart. No way was I coming back out here for less than a week, so I thought "Where to go in between?" -- and came up with Mom's in NYC. Not until a few days later did I realize what else I might have done (the conferences are in San Antonio and Atlanta respectively; you guys are right in the middle).

Well, I was feeling a twinge of regret for having blown the opportunity, when Mom offered to meet me in N.O. at the holidays rather than have me come back up to N.Y.! Remember, she visited me several times when I lived in N.O., so she is "in that number" in her own right.

So, could it work? Or will all you guys, not to mention the neighborhood planning types I've been corresponding with, all be away doing your own holiday things? And how could I best keep myself busy (not too busy, though :-) ) while I'm there? (my talents run more towards planning than gutting houses)?
