I live in Covington with my nephew who has a wife and 5 kids, I also have my grandson with me. I have lived here since March when my friends that we shared a house with packed up and moved to Virginia, also in March before that we lived in Lacombe when the storm hit. We are living in a 3 bedroom house that my nephew is looking sell soon. Having been displaced by Katrina I can't seem to find any affordable housing. I went today to the Covington Housing Authority to see if there is anything that they can do for us but they have nothing and probably will have nothing for a very long time. Not only does Covington have nothing but neither does anyone else. Rents around here are unbelievable and finding a job is also very hard. I am working but so far it's been a hodge podge of delivering pizza's, helping install FEMA trailers and construction work (mostly painting) and still I'm not making enough to live here.
FEMA is a joke and I don't know of any other agencies that can help us find a place to live that we can afford. If anyone has any contacts or advice please advise, it would be so much appreciated.
