To kill yhe spin: Ithink one of the main reason the republicans accross the country and especially in maine lost was because of arrogance. It was simple to see the game plan, have many candidates for governor, split the vote! Old but proven tatic.(sometimes) RUN TABOR AS A CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN IDEA!complain about citizen groups going against(donating money). Do not let the public know you are hammering pro votes for free on two television and radio shows in the state for free every day! tweak the tabor bill to 2/3 majority to make sure your puppets can keep it from the people to change a vote. Then lie about it,by saying people can overide it with a vote. Neglecting to say but first you need a 2/3 vote by the elected board.otherwise the people have no say. How it unraveled: Maine people are naturally curious.they used their computers, listened to the spin, asked questions and soon realized there was a snake in the wood-pile! the 2/3 vote was the killer.the comerical with the gov. of colorado was the frosting on the cake.SOUND BYTES KILLED IT FOREVER! CREDIBILITY WAS LOST! AND IT WAS DEFEATED;AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN! WOODCOCK LOST AT LEAST 10% OF HIS VOTE BECAUSE HE FAVORED IT. YES ARROGANCE COST THE REPUBLICANS,AND IT STILL IS PRESENT AND HURTING THEM MORE. REMEMBER DURING THE SPIN,BALDACCI GOT 39% OF THE VOTE,WOODCOCK 28%,MERRIL 22% LAMARCHE10% AND PIER 1% SO BY ANY VIEW OR MATH BALDACCI HAS A CLEAR MANDATE FROM THE ELECTORATE,AND TABOR IF IT COMES BACK IS SIMPLY A MEANS TO MAKE MONEY FOR A FEW! YES THE STATE HAS A MONEY PROBLEM,MUCH OF IT BECAUSE OF THE DRUNKEN SAILOR SPENDING OF THE NOT CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF THE PAST-NOW LET THE HEARINGS BEGIN. A TRUE CONSERVATIVE WOULD WANT THIS PARTY EXPOSED FOR THE WANTON SPENDING AND PORK BARRELING THEY HAVE DONE;THE REASON ALL OF THEM WAS NOT UP FOR ELECTION. A TRUE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE WOULD HAVE BEEN CLAMORING DAILY FOR FISCAL RESONSLBLITY. NOW THATS A TRUE CRUSADE!

A mandate is not 38 PERCENT! To be considered a mandate, one would have to receive at least half of the votes. 62 percent of voters wanted someone else besides Baldacci. I would call it a Mandate that the voters DO NOT want Baldacci, but then again that is just me and my rational thinking.

AND I HOPE U DON'T STILL USE THE HEADLIGHTS OF A CRUSIER TO SHOOT UR DEER! THINK BOUT IT I WAS DRIVING AN ORANGE PUMPKIN! HA HA BET YOU REMEMBER NOW!

Lucky said: "WOODCOCK LOST AT LEAST 10% OF HIS VOTE BECAUSE HE FAVORED IT."
So you're saying that if Woodcock had not favored TABOR, he would have won with "at least" 40 percent of the vote to Baldacci's 38 percent? That without TABOR on the ballot Baldacci would now be a lame duck? You're saying Baldacci didn't win so much as Woodcock lost? I never suspected you had such a poor opinion of our governor, Lucky.

Sometimes I wish I lived in Lucky World, where the facts are whatever I want them to be. Here in the real world, the final results from the election were:
John E. Baldacci (D) 206811 38.03% Chandler E. Woodcock (R) 164789 30.30% Barbara Merrill (U) 117079 21.53% Patricia H. LaMarche (G) 51992 9.56% Phillip Morris NaPier (U) 3179 0.58%
Like I predicted from the beginning, Baldacci won, but not well and without a mandate to continue his programs. Three of five Mainers voted for someone else, and that hurts. We have to do better. (And Lucky, I never pushed tabor. Why make such baseless accusations that can so easily be disproved? Sign of desperation there, but not without precedent on your part, sad to say.) The governor benefitted from the Maine GOP's continuing fascination with the pain produced by shooting itself in the foot.
And BTW, Lucky, last time I checked, 30.30 plus 10 equals a loss for Governor Baldacci. I'm still disappointed that you have so little faith in our party's leader, Lucky.

kids need to stop fighting. I have no faith in Baldy either. But then again, I have yet to see anyone honest in any level of government. I'm Democrat, but a bone-head is a bone-head (like me) no matter what party he or she leads. If either of you think any of these leaders ( repukes, or Democrats) give one "shit" about any of us and not their own agenda, it proves how naive we as a society are.

as he claimed after the 2004 election? With his 51%
In a four way race, 39% is pretty respectable. And it is certainly better than our pResident's current approval rate of somewhere between 31% and 36%. I only mention it because you appear to like numbers :)

I wouldn't bet that "TABOR is Dead". I am and was against TABOR, but anyone who thinks it is dead is fooling themselves. Unless something happens on tax relief and part of this includes spending control), we will see this again.

over it. And I am a Democrat. But a spade is a spade. Glad you think everything is well in this State. Maybe you have plenty of money, and maybe your taxes are lower, but the majority still suffers. Doesn't matter who has the upper hand. When I get paid the money doesn't say Democrat or republican. I'd be curious to know what you do for a living. I want in.

AND SHOREBOUND KNOWS I SAID THIS FROM DAY ONE! Sorry but the last time i talked to the gov. was oct. and i told him then no sweat! And I love his family's reataurant been eating in it for 52 years,in each location it's been. His grammy use to have me set in the back where the family ate, when I worked on dow base. so cram that I don't have faith in the gov. where the sun don't shine shorebound. Shore bound is really a repuke who comes in here and tries to spread hate and b.s.! woodcock was a hope in the dark by the right. And like most of them boys they shoot themselves in the foot. Oh and by the way what you see with the gov. is what you get,he's very polite, direct, looks fit(don't know why that spagetti don't stick to him like me) and has maine in his heart. and i'm proud to say i converted a few votes his way.

Check my posting history, Luckless. The first Dem I worked for was JFK, when I was barely old enough to earn my Republican father's disapproval. You want to make insulting accusations, take them elsewhere and try them on someone who actually cares about your lies.

Actually, I think Luckless was referring to me. You just got caught in his spew field. He comes here to feel important with his boastful hoorah posts and hates it when real Democrats correct his wild misstatements out of concern that other visitors might think we're all like him. After reading his posts for the past several months, I'm not altogether sure he's real. At one point I thought he was a paid troll. Now I suspect he might be a persona cobbled up by a bored teenager who's building a golem out of bits and pieces of his grandparents' lives. His use of deliberate ignorance, misstatements of fact, false accusations, and, when all else fails, bathrooom crudeness indicates an adolescent personality that angers easily when caught in a contradiction.
As for your comment about the heritage of debt we're leaving your generation, sadly you're right. It goes back to LBJ's attempt to have both guns and butter, to fight a war in Vietnam while expanding social services and government programs at home. In a larger sense, we were trying to be all things to all people --- an international military bulwark against the supposed dangers of the Warsaw Pact while constructing a comprehensive social safety net for our citizens. That was true of both parties at the national level, and it's worth noting that national debt has expanded most dramatically during times of Republican control -- Reagan and Bush II being the best examples. I wish I had an easy answer to the larger problem.

Prove it. Or apologize. Now. Your lies end now, Luckless, or I make a formal request that you be banned from this forum.
And your reading comprehension stinks, as well as your knowledge of history.

The "suffering" majority voted for Baldacci, against TABOR and for more Dems in the State House.
Guess they like "suffering" a lot.
