| Democrats Nominate Kate Smith for District 99 Race |
|
CORNISH -- Local Democrats today nominated Kate Smith of Sebago as their candidate for state representative in House District 99. The seat was vacated earlier this month when State Representative Philip Cressey (R-Cornish) resigned.
"I think it's important to be involved in your community and that serving the people of this area as a state representative is one of the best ways I can do that," Smith said. "I love Maine and I want to do everything I can so that my beautiful daughter can enjoy it as much as I do."
Maine Democratic Party Chair John Knutson said Smith is an active, respected member of her community and an outstanding nominee.
"Kate Smith is a dedicated public servant and a great resource for her community," Knutson said. "She has demonstrated a deep commitment to the people of House District 99 as a caring, effective leader."
Smith is currently employed as a physical therapist at Bridgton Hospital. Previously, she worked for three years at Cedars Nursing Care Center in Portland. She is also currently president of the Board of Trustees for the Spaulding Memorial Library in Sebago and is a member of the School Board for SAD 61.
House District 99 includes the towns of Baldwin, Cornish, Denmark, Limington and Sebago. The special election to fill the seat will be held on November 6.
