Does anyone remember what type of Senator Matthias was?
I was wondering because... I live across the street from this old guy (DIEHARD Democrat and retired Steele worker) and he constantly brags about Matthias. He says Matthias was a great Senator despite the fact that he was a Republican. He even said his local union hall backed Matthias every single year he was up for re-election.
Any information on Mac Matthias would be greatly appreciated...

...on Crossfire. Since Crossfire is ending Friday, they are showing a bunch of old clips this week. One of them was Pat Buchanon debating Mac Mathias. Paul Begala introduced the clip and refered to Mathias as a "liberal Republican". I'd like to know more about him too. Back in 1988, Mathias got into a bitter argument with Novak on Crossfire and he never returned. I believe Novak called him a communist.
