His little plan to call the legislaute into a special session was too cute by hald and it blew up in his face.

I am worried he has a stronger chacne at re-election than most will admit. I just dont know why I think this. Its like I know he will be at a disadvantage because the results of the 2004 election have proven just how Blue we are. Plus, he has accomplished nothing in his 2 years as Govenor. He comes off to me as a compulsive gambler. The only thing that comes out of his mouth is Slots, Slots, Slots. Yet, he still seems like he will be strong in '06. WTF?

| 7. Because incumbents are still tough to beat. |

And the Dems will have a NASTY primary between O'Malley and Duncan, with the winner being badly bruised and one jurisdiction (O'Malley's Baltimore or Duncan's MoCo) feeling pissed that their guy didn't win, thus there might be a suppressed turnout in one of these two Democratic strongholds (the third and final being P.G.).
Also remember that the rest of the state doesn't like MoCo that much, so swing voters elsewhere might not be inclined to vote for Duncan if he wins. On the other hand, many folks aren't eager to elect another "Governor of Baltimore" by letting O'Malley win (and steer even MORE Maryland money to Baltimore while the rest of the state goes begging) so swing voters might not be too crazy about O'Malley either.
So, your concerns are well founded. All Ehrlich has to do is continue to run strong in the rest of the state, and suppress the Dem vote in just one of the 3 Dem jurisdictions (MoCo, P.G., Baltimore City) and he wins. He'll have enough money to run another good campaign, so it might happen.

Your making it seem as if Ehrlich has an overwhelming advantage. The results of the 2004 election have proven that this state is still strongly Democratic. I believe if we get out the vote we will win. Is there any other candidates out there? What is your best and worst case scenarios for us Dem's?

| 11. I don't think he has an OVERWHELMING advantage |
|
but he has the advantage, Dem state or no.
Best case scenarios is that the primary isn't that bloody and the party unites quickly after September and that Ehrlich continues to look like a buffoon in Annapolis.
Worst case: Dems have a bloodbath in September and hard feelings don't heal come November, and one jurisdiction (MoCo or Baltimore City) has depressed turnout, while Ehrlich successfully drives a wedge on the tax issue and he wins again.

What? Was that a trick question?
The real question is how badly Duncan and O'Malley will beat each other up.
I think it will look a lot like Dean vs. Kerry with both guy loosing in the end.

in the 2 years he has been in office.
Neither candidate has said they are running yet. Actually, Duncan sorta has but O'Malley hasnt said anything yet. Duncan is actually trying to get him not to run. I read an article in the Sun not to long ago were Duncan said "O'Malley isnt running. He wouldnt leave the great people of Baltimore City like that." I think he either knows something we dont know or he is trying to avoid the brutal primary even if it means playing a little dirty.

I have been in the middle of some interesting discussions at the Baltimore Sun's message board. Alot of people say O'Malley would lose. "He is to liberal." They say Duncan will lose because has no name recognition what so ever and he is a rich boy from "Money County." Who do you think our best shot is? Some Republicans were mentioning they would vote for Dutch Ruppersberger.

And since that's true and I'm a political consultant who needs to feed a growing family I will either stay out of the primary by keeping busy or work for whoever hires me.
