BROCKTON — A gunman opened fire on a police officer in the parking lot of a Main Street club at closing time early Sunday, then fled as the officer returned fire, police said.
It was one of at least five reported shootings in the city over the weekend, with two of the shootings happening outside city clubs within an hour.
A 19-year-old Brockton man was shot outside the Tekoah Club on Petronelli Way at 12:19 a.m. Sunday, and shots rang out less than an hour later outside the Morabeza Restaurant and Pub on Main Street at 1:08 a.m.
Later, a resident reported six gunshots at Wheeler Avenue and Malvern Road about 2:30 a.m. Police recovered two 25-millimeter shell casings from that scene.
A Mattapan man was shot in the right leg near North Main and East Battles streets at 9:14 p.m. Saturday, police said.
