Brattle’s Brand-New Day
The Brattle Film Foundation reports that its “Preserve the Brattle Legacy” fundraising campaign is a success. Michael Bowes, Board Chair since its inception, announced that Cambridge’s Brattle Theatre, as recently as 16 months ago in danger of going out of business due to large debts, raised $400,000 from a variety of sources, saw its individual donor list grow from 250 to more than 1,200, and added five new members to the Brattle Film Foundation board. Bowes also revealed that the repertory moviehouse recently signed a two-year lease extension with its landlord Brattle Square Associates.
The original monetary goal was $500,000, but Brattle Film Foundation Executive Director Ivy Moylan is quite happy with the results, despite the $100,000 shortfall.
“We were faced with a decision,” she said. “Continue the campaign as is, and risk fatiguing the community with a message of emergency or, bolstered by all of our accomplishments, declare the campaign a success and begin an unprecedented period of growth for the Brattle. It was a pretty simple decision to make.”
